Mr Carl Mincher: Weekly Update 16/12/16

16 December 2016

Dear Parents,

While this has been the last week of term there has been no slowing down in the pace of events happening around the school.

Impromptu Music Performance

We were treated to an impromptu performance by the sax group in the undercroft at lunchtime this week. This has been one of several musical performances which have taken place around school over lunchtime.

Programming Project - Year 8 & Year 2 Collaborate

Year 8 ICT Scratch Before _ After

There is a lovely article on our website this week written by Ms Claire Easter, Head of Computing, detailing the Year 2/Year 8 programming collaboration. The Year 8 students learn how to program games and each make their own game which the Year 2 students then come over to Secondary to test out. This year we came full circle when some of our students who had been the testers when they were in Year 2 became this year’s programmers of Year 8. I really like the sense of community this article brings, and I am especially pleased to see some of our long term students celebrating a milestone in their computing journey.

Working With Christina Noble Children's Foundation

For some time now the school has been working with the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation teaching children to learn to swim. (CNCF)is a partnership of people working together, dedicated to aiding children in need of help whether it is educational, job placement, medical care, or protecting children from exploitation. At the end of term our CNCF club was able to take the children on an ice skating adventure, much enjoyed by the children and the BIS students. Ms Lanyon Jones, club leader, and the students give us an overview of the clubs achievements this term.

With 21 schools participating our small squad of 20 students were delighted to return home with the Visiting Team Champion trophy, as the team that scored the highest average score per swimmer. Congratulations to all those who took part.
