The Global Goals Club

16 December 2016

The Global Goals Club is open to all students from Year 7 to 13 and we always welcome new members! Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to...

In 2015, the United Nations introduced a set of 17 goals called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that they aim to achieve by 2030. The Global Goals club focus on goal number 4 - quality education. We had two days of campaign around the secondary campus with different activities to educate students about the problem.

As part of the campaign, we had multiple activities to encourage students to become involved. One focused on teachers’ memories of education - the task was to match each story to a teacher based on their experience in education. We also made figures to show the evolution of education over time, between the 1920s and the projections for 2030. Students also completed a quiz about education around the world and in Vietnam. Posters were put up around the school to inform students on the barriers to quality education. On Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th December during form time, Year 7 and 8 estimated how many M&Ms there were in a jar that represented the number of people without education in each region around the world.

The Global Goals Club believes that the campaign has been successful in raising awareness of the issue and encouraged people to act on it. We hope that our campaign will make a lasting impression on BIS HCMC students, who the future generation of leaders. Remember, all we need is “One knowledge, one action and one mission to achieve this goal.”
