Over the past half term the Year 6 pupils have been making fairground ride models as part of their IPC unit. Following the initial entry point fact finding visit to Dam Sen Park, the children have designed and developed their own ride models in small groups, working collaboratively to tackle the challenge. The Year 6 children had approximately 10 hours of learning time focused on designing, building, marketing and finally, composing their sales pitch to persuade the visitors to vote for their ride.
This week, the Year 6 children were tasked with presenting their rides to members of the school visiting the exhibition. These visitors voted for their favourite rides once they had wandered round all the stalls that caught their attention. Rides were presented on exhibition stalls with marketing and sales features developed to support the theme.
After a very successful exhibition, the votes were counted and the ‘Top 3’ announced. The results were very close, with all teams receiving a good share of the votes. They had all obviously done very well to persuade the voters with the quality of their ride or their sales techniques, or both! The overall winners of the 2016 Year 6 Fairground Construction Challenge are:
First Place - ‘Dream Flower’ Yui & Pauline
Second Place - ‘Demented Pirates’ Ken, Hai Anh & Bonny
Third Place - ‘Xmas Cars’ Benz, Duy Anh & David
Congratulations to all of the Year 6 children on a very successful project. We obviously have a lot of potential engineers as well as salesmen and women in the year!
