TX Parent Group - 11.3.16

11 March 2016

"We can do it" she said……and yes, they did !

Everyone at TX can agree on the fact that the School Fête (family day) was a huge success.  For this week's newsletter I was going to make a list of numbers, such as;

  • 7 meetings;

  • 18 parents on the committee;

  • more than 3 438 tokens sold;

  • a huge list of donation (food, beverages, video support, banners, balloons, craft materials etc…)

  • ...and a total of 40,585,000 VND raised, which will benefit ARC and PDV, two of TX's community partners!!

…but after talking to one parent from the organising committee and the touching words she had,  I wanted to tell you a bit more of the story behind the School Fête.  The School Fête was scheduled last June 2015 during the last meeting between parents and the headteachers.  So far, all events mapped were brought to life, they were like rehearsals for a bigger event and that bigger event was nearing.  However, in January the group somehow lost confidence in their skills and capacity to achieve this particular project. They have proved they could do amazing things for International Week, but they were not sure if they could manage all aspects of a School Fête on their own.  At the end of the first meeting , the event was about to be cancelled until a voice was raised.  That voice said, "We can do it!" and a second one answered back, "Yes, we can".  The School Fête was saved!  Then it took several meetings, a lot of energy, dedication, hard work, moments of laughter, moments of stress and moments of haste, so that everyone could enjoy a wonderful morning at TX.

Last Saturday, the School Fête committee added one more brick to our community.  We had the opportunity to meet parents who work during weekdays and usually cannot come to school, we have met grand parents, uncles and aunts, friends of our children’s friends, we had teachers and staff who came to help on their day off, we had the guards showing us their art skills, yes everyone from TX had a part to play.

Thank you Cảm ơn bạn  Terimakasih banyak  ありがとう Grazie mille  ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು  شكرا    고맙습니다  धन्यवाद  Merci  Cпасибі  நன்றி तुझे उपकार मानतो 謝謝

….for all the hard work, for all the donations, for helping on the day, for coming with your family, for the support (our headteachers, teachers and staff members).

And that was just the first time that TX parents got together for a weekend event, so be prepared for next year, who knows what they are going to do next!

What did you do on Woman’s day ? (A glimpse at TX mums' agenda)

On March 8th, the Vietnamese mums were pleased to have mums from Italy, Singapore, Kuwait and Indonesia joining them for a breakfast to celebrate Women's Day at Ru Nam Cafê.  Around cups of coffee, tea and glasses of fresh juices, everyone had a great time.

Hang’s (Duc An F3 Duc Phu's F1 mum) family in law joined the group, too.  In order to celebrate women, and to a much appreciated surprise, her father in law offered the breakfast to everyone.  A huge thank you to Hang’s father and mother in law for a touching gesture on that special occasion.

Same time, same day, Year 6s Mums were also gathering but for another matter, preparing the Year 6 graduation.  Visiting potential venues, calculating budget and discussions were on their menu. Meanwhile, the most sporty and brave were taking a zumba class. And you, what did you do ? :)
