Mr Simon Higham – Weekly Update: 20/05/16

19 May 2016

Dear Parents

It has been yet another busy week at An Phu Primary Campus and this continues across the whole weekend with the start of the Primary FOBISIA Games. 6 teams will compete across 4 events over 3 days. I would like to wish every team the very best of luck and I am sure that our 6 squads will do us all proud under the banner of BIS, HCMC. Work hard, play fairly and above all, enjoy yourselves in the process. Please look out for all of the results and stories on the BIS HUB and in next week's Update.

Headteacher's Coffee Morning

Thank you to all of the parents who attended the final Headteacher's Coffee Morning of the year on Wednesday. If you were unable to attend, the full presentation can be found by clicking this link. My thanks to Mr Tim Deyes, Principal of BIS for joining our meeting and being very open to hearing your views relating to the strengths and next steps for our school.

Class allocation 2016-17 - first draft

On Monday, you will receive a first draft of your child's 2016 - 17 class allocation. As previously outlined, this has been achieved by considering a range of factors which include a balance of gender, ability, nationality, behaviour, learning support, language competency and social groupings. Take time to talk this list through with your child. If you would like to discuss any educational issues with your child’s class teacher relating to their placement for next year, please contact them directly to arrange a meeting before 3.00pm on Wednesday 1st June.

Once this deadline has passed and all suggestions have been received, the final lists will be prepared by adding new students, room allocations and class teachers. All final lists will then be published to parents with the End of Year Report on Friday 10th June. Please note that class lists for all Year 6 children attending the Malaysia trip on Monday, will receive their allocations via email.

Year 6 Prepare for Secondary

On Wednesday, all of our Year 6 headed over the bridge for a taster of secondary life during their Transition Day. There were a a few anxious faces on the initial walk over, however these were replaced by smiles a plenty on their way back. Well done to all of our Year 6's for working hard and being ambitious. Thank you  to all of our secondary colleagues that made this experience one to remember and proving, there is life after primary (and it's exciting!).

Year 5 Visit AP2 for Science Investigations

The Year 5 students couldn't wait to get across the bridge this week and get into the AP2 Science Labs for some serious investigations and fun. Read all about their morning at AP2 and what they got up to in this post by Ms Deborah Spencer, Assistant MP3 Leader and Year 5 Teacher.

EAL Lessons in MP3

At BIS, we expect everyone to work very hard in all that they do. If you are having to do this, whilst also learning English, it is doubly demanding and our children who work closely with the EAL department epitomise these efforts.  Find out what our MP3 EAL learners have been up to in their lessons in this post by Mr Chris Rolls, EAL Teacher and Ms Shaheena Pall EAL Subject Leader.

PTG - We Still Need Your Help

As we approach the end of the school year, we start planning for the next academic year. We are looking for parents to volunteer on different event committees for the 2016-2017 school year.

The events run by parents for the BIS students adds to the social fabric of the school. Please consider signing up to any of the committees that BIS AP1 is going to need to run all the events. Remember, if an event does not have a committee to organise or volunteers to help, it may not run.

This signup list is just to create a steering committee.  Once the event is approaching, we will recruit more volunteers to help run it. The committee will be in charge of coordinating the event.  The school will help with the logistics and the funds needed to run each event. Please use this link below to sign up.

Thank you in advance for your valuable support. Please do not hesitate to ask me if you have any questions via this email: bisvnptgap1@gmail.com

Up cycled Uniforms Project - Please donate your child(ren)'s uniform!

The Upcycled Uniforms Project is an initiative to make usable and school-friendly products from donated BIS uniforms. This initiative hopes to make the idea of 'reuse' more tangible and achievable for our children. We are very happy to see many children storing their shoes, PE kit and clothes in the bags purchased from our Pop Up Shop.

The next Pop Up Shops will be held on Thursday 26 May and Thursday 16 June. We will be open from 7.30-8.30am and       2.00pm -3.00pm.

We are working on new product lines and they will be introduced at the next Pop Up Shop. In order for us to continue producing these upcylced products, we require LOTS of uniform donations. Please drop your clean uniforms (no hats or swimwear) into the grey donation box near the office (under the PTG board).
