Cast your minds back to November: A month of extravagant beards and moustaches!
It was also a time for the school community to come to together to raise awareness for cancer. Throughout the month, male staff competed to see who could go grow the longest and most impressive moustache. Alongside this, students learned about the cancer issues that affect people globally, as well as in Vietnam. Cancer affects an alarming amount of people in Vietnam. The treatments are very expensive and many of the patients and their families do not have the money to buy it.
Through this year’s Movember fundraising, BIS raised an amazing 25,386,200 VND! An additional 22,000,000 VND was also donated by the PTG from funds raised at the Christmas BISzaar over the last two years.
A dedicated group of students visit Children’s Cancer Wards in Binh Thanh and District 2 every Wednesday. The amazing dedication and care that is given by these students is invaluable. Each week they play with children, whose lives, along with those of their families, have been dramatically affected by cancer. On the students’ visit to Binh Thanh Ward yesterday they met the families that the school’s fundraising has helped support. Thuy’s Dreams, an organisation who supports Children with Cancer, chose four families who needed help with paying their child’s medical treatment at Binh Thanh Ward. They have also chosen three more families, based at the District 2 hospital, who will receive the money for the treatment next week.
Thank you to all students, staff and parents who supported the Movember Team this year. As a school community, we should not only feel grateful for our health, but we should also feel proud of the support we can give people less fortunate than ourselves.
