On Wednesday 1st June we were extremely fortunate to secure a visit from the Desford Colliery Band as part of their Vietnam tour 2016.
The band worked extremely hard throughout the day and played 4 mini concerts, for students from EYFS, Milepost 1, 2 and 3, all the way through to our oldest secondary students. Finally, we welcomed students from the local Vo Thanh Trang School marching band. The performances were fantastic and the band was able to demonstrate how the instruments work as well as being very entertaining. The quality of the music was stunning and showed extreme professionalism.
The performances included a wide range of music, from ‘Star Wars’ title theme to original music in ‘Enter the Galaxies’, the magnificent March from ‘The Pines of Rome’ and the ever popular ‘Let It Go’ from the movie ‘Frozen’ as well as some amazing technically and musically advanced solos. The band really enjoyed the fantastic singing of the EYFS and MP1 students in this piece.
At the end of the day, the Desford band joined the BIS Concert Band for a rehearsal where the conductor Jonathan Pippen took the students and the professional musicians through ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. The musicians in Concert band thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside such amazing musicians and the sound they were producing at the end of the rehearsal was fantastic. We learnt a lot from playing in such company!
Thanks to the Desford band for coming all the way from the UK to allow us to experience such a wonderful day of music.
The band seemed to really enjoy their time at the school too, posting on our Facebook page: "On behalf of the Desford Colliery Band, thank you SO MUCH for inviting us to share our music with you today. We've loved playing for you, and the kids were so receptive to our performances. "Let it Go" to the juniors was just incredible! We look forward to seeing you again at tomorrow's concert!"
