Mr Simon Higham – Weekly Update: 03/06/16

03 June 2016

Dear Parents

It has been another very busy and active week of learning at An Phu Primary, with children returning from residential trips, a visit to our school from some very special guest musicians and some very excited and enthused children.

parent teacher connect

Firstly, I would like to thank all parents for their suggestions relating to any educational issues relating to the draft class lists last week. All suggestions have now been noted, discussed and teachers are working hard to finalise the class lists with teacher allocations in readiness for next week's distribution with the End of Year Reports. Please note the final class lists will not contain any new starters, therefore numbers may initially seem imbalanced. All new children to our school will be added before the end of term in line with our mixing procedure.

Welcome back this week to our two classes from Year 6 as they returned tired but exhilarated from their residential trip to Malaysia. We are all looking forward to meeting and greeting the remaining four Year 6 classes today and hearing about their adventures at Earth Camp. It has been great to be able to follow their experiences via the AP1 Residential Trips Blog.

Open Classrooms

Based on feedback from parents, we are hosting our Open Classroom event in the morning this year for the very first time. A letter with details was sent to all parents earlier this week with details. The Open Classroom event takes place on Tuesday 14th June with classes open from 7.30am till 8.30am. This event offers parents the chance to view their child's classroom, look at their books and give an opportunity to children to share their learning with you all. We look forward to seeing you all attend.

Desford Colliery Band

On Wednesday this week, we were delighted to welcome the Desford Colliery Band to BIS. They enthralled us with their musical abilities and also how well the whole band interacted with our children. They even explained how the sound is made when playing a brass instrument and backed up their theory with a demonstration of how you can 'feel' the vibrations (see below). Read more in this post by Mr Ian Alexander, Director of Music.

F2 - Fashion Designers of the Future

In preparation for their forthcoming Summer Concert, the children of F2 have been both designing and making their own costumes. Read more about some of the imaginative and intricate designs that are in the process of being made by reading the post by Ms Sarah Curran, Assistant Headteacher (EYFS).

F3 - Super Star Writers

The children in F3 have been working hard to develop both their reading and writing skills this year. It has been a real privilege to see how much progress they have made and how much fun in their learning has taken place during the process. Read more about what they think about their writing in this post by Ms Louise Swift, F3 Teacher and Assistant Milepost Leader.

AP1 Host Successful Netball Tournament

This week seven teams from various International Schools in HCMC, including our two BIS Primary campuses (An Phu Primary and Tu Xuong) came together here at AP1 for a Netball tournament. It was a lovely afternoon with some exciting matches and nail biting games. Congratulations to Tu Xuong Primary in their first place and well done to all of the players that took part - for some of them from AP1, it was their first time at a Netball Tournament! Read the full article about this event in the post by Ms Lindsey Shuttleworth, PE Teacher.

Working Together - Year 6 Invited to the AP2 Quiz Night

We are delighted to announce that our Year 6 students have been invited to the AP2 quiz night that will take place on Friday 10th June. This is a wonderful opportunity for our soon to be secondary students to mix and mingle with current AP2 students and their peers from Tu Xuong Primary Campus as they get ready for their transition to secondary school.  Good luck everyone - get your thinking caps on!

AP1/TX Ballet Show

BIS and Elise Roper are delighted to announce the first Ballet demonstration of the Tu Xuong and An Phu Primary Ballet Club. The F3-Y2 students have been practising hard for this event all year and it would be great to see as many parents as possible watch their performance, which we are sure will be of an excellent quality. The demonstration takes place in the AP2 Auditorium at 6.00pm on Wednesday 15th June. No tickets required.

Clubs T3

Next week is the final week of our Extra Curricular Club Programme for Term 3, 2016. From all of the staff at An Phu Primary Campus, we would like to thank everyone for their support in developing a wide and varied Extra Curricular programme and we all hope that our children have gained a great deal from the experiences that have been on offer to them. You never know, that new art class may have sparked the next Van Gough or through the Community Chess club, the next Garry Kasparov could have been created.

Please look out for the Term 1 2016/17 Extra Curricular Activities sign up that begins on 31st August. We are all looking forward to seeing what new opportunities lie ahead for our children.

I wish you all a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend. Thank you for your continued support.

Simon Higham, Headteacher of An Phu Primary Campus
