Letters were sent home to all students in Years 7-10 and Year 12 this week regarding the school’s trip week which takes place from 16-20th January 2017.
These trips provide a chance for your child to challenge themselves, broaden their friendship groups and take part in individual and team building challenges. Each year trip builds on the last as we increase the level of challenge and so the sense of achievement gained by students. While attendance on these trips is compulsory for all students, we would encourage you to talk over with your son/daughter the benefits the trip will offer them, particularly if they seem a little reticent. It is always wonderful to see how students become more outgoing and develop even more friendships whilst having great fun together.
Deposits are due by Friday 7th October and may be paid in cash to the cashier.
Year 7 - Madagui, Viet Nam
Madagui, the forest city known for its clean fresh air, offers Year 7 students a week of team building activities as well as an opportunity for personal challenge. Activities include swimming, rafting, hiking, archery, zip lining and camping.
Year 8 - Dalat, Viet Nam
In the hills around Dalat, students take part in physical challenge activities, including trekking, abseiling and rope courses. They complement this with team-building exercises and work in schools for disabled local children.
Year 9 - Thac Ba Lake, Viet Nam
Staying in an eco-lodge overlooking the great lake, serves as the perfect location to explore the stunning countryside. Whether by mountain bike, by foot or boat – students will connect with the surroundings, the local Dao community and much more.
Year 10 - Hong Kong
Based in Sai Kung, Hong Kong, students will experience three completely different days of activities. These include cultural visits, survival techniques, and an appreciation of what the city has to offer.
Year 12 - A range of trips to Bidoup NP, Chiang Rai, Kon Tum, Puerta Galera, Tu Lan Caves
Students have even more choice this year as to how they spend their time and energy over the week. Whether diving in the Philippines, caving in Central Viet Nam, getting involved in the community of Kon Tum, International Award expeditions or adventures in Northern Thailand – these trips are designed to challenge students and demonstrate their already establishing leadership skills.
Year 11 & Year 13 students to not participate in trips week since they sit their mock exams over this period.
Fobisia Orchestral Festival 2016
Last week eight of our music students set off to take part in the Fobisia Orchestral Festival in Hong Kong. I can do no better than echo the words of Christine Le from Year 10 in summing up how participation in these events helps to inspire our students ‘The FOBISIA Orchestral Festival has been amazing. This has to be one of the most memorable experiences in my BIS life. Even though the pieces were hard, we still managed to put on an absolutely stunning performance by persevering.’
Saigon Senior Logic Competition
Last weekend saw some of our intrepid Maths students participate in the Saigon Senior Logic Competition which combined fun with logic and provided stiff competition between participants from International Schools across the city. Mr Sillitoe, Assistant Head of the Maths Department gives us his overview of the event.

International Day - Your Country Needs You!
Just a reminder that International Day takes place on Friday October 14th. If you are interested in helping out in your country’s room please do contact the PTG who will put you in touch with your country representative. This is also a great way for parents who are new to the school, and who may not yet be working, to meet up with other parents. The PTG can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org
As part of our International Day celebrations the school holds an auction where students are able to bid to purchase items donated by students and their families. The proceeds from the auction are all given to our Community Services Partners. If you are able to help with donation of any of the items requested we would be most grateful. Items can be handed in at reception on or before 11 October.

My congratulations to all those students and families who participated:
We hope that next week will see a slowing down of the rain and flooding which has impacted on so many families in Vietnam recently. I hope you all enjoy a wonderful weekend.
