A Busy Week for Community

12 January 2017

This week, Year 1 started their project with Binh Trieu school. Binh Trieu school is a centre which provides schooling for over 400 disadvantaged children. There are also over 30 children that live at the centre. The project aims to broaden the experiences of our children here at Tu Xuong Campus and help them to develop empathy with others.

It is always exciting for our students to start a new community project and this week saw many eager faces waiting for some new playmates to arrive. It was the beginning of the Year 1 project with Binh Trieu! After the Year 1 children had been prepped and had learnt a little about Binh Trieu school, the children came to visit us here at Tu Xuong Campus and took part in activities designed by the Year 1 teachers. Ms Holly said ‘Year 1 had lots of fun meeting their new friends from Binh Trieu for the first time. They did some drawing, played with Lego and made playdough. It was a challenge for those who can't speak Vietnamese (including the teachers!) but everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to meeting the children again next week.’ There are three more visits planned for Term 2 and we hope to see the children making friends and integrating further as the project continues.

In addition, every day this week we have been collecting donations for the ‘Tet Collection’. This is a collection of items including stationery, toys and food items such as rice and noodles. Once all of the items have been collected they will be thoughtfully distributed to our community partners in time for Tet. We hope to make Tet 2017 extra special for the children of our community partners through receiving our donations. It has been a delight to see such an amazing response from the families at TX! The collection point has been full to bursting with many high quality items that I’m sure our community partners will be thrilled to receive. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all families that donated to this cause and for your continued support of our work with the community.
