Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 13.01.17

13 January 2017

At BIS HCMC, we aim to provide appropriate opportunities for students of all ages to develop a respectful and caring sense of social responsibility towards other people and the environment on both a local and global scale. This is worked out through our community service programme where each year group works with a different group or organisation to not only raise funds but get directly involved to really understand what social responsibility means.

Binh Trieu Children visit Year 1

The foyer was full of children at break time on Tuesday; members of the Binh Trieu School were having a playdate with the TX children.  They sat together and enjoyed a snack before playing with Lego, the playdough and in the playground.  This was the first time the Year 1 children had met their community partners and the first opportunity to get to know their new friends.  Over the coming weeks, there are several more playdates planned where the TX children will develop their friendships with the Binh Trieu children, and their understanding of those less fortunate than themselves.

Community Department Receives International Recognition

We believe that the community programme that we have developed at BIS adds significantly to the overall educational experience of the children.  Integrity, respect and care are characteristics that we want to see in our children and working with our community partners helps these to develop.  Our work has not gone unnoticed!  We have been shortlisted for one of the British International Schools Awards!  To find out more please click on the link:

Year 4 Ice Cream Hunt

‘Adventurers and Explorers’ is the title of the IPC topic that the Year 4 children are currently studying.  This topic will allow the children to focus on historical enquiry and to develop their geography skills.  It is good to practise using maps in the classroom, but it is so much better to go on an adventure where if you follow a map accurately, you will find treasure (in this case ice-cream).  The children did a great job safely navigating around the city and everyone thoroughly deserved their refreshing prize.

And Finally…

Thank you to everyone who attended our parents’ evening on Thursday.  I hope that the information regarding targets for your child’s development is useful and that the guidance provided by our teachers will help you to better support your child at home.  If you were unable to meet your child’s class teacher, please make sure that you make an appointment; the learning partnership between home and school has to be strong to ensure every individual achieves what they are capable of.

As ever, if you have any follow up questions, please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher, any specialist teacher, Ms Mary or me.

I hope you have a tremendous weekend,

Ian Battersby/ Head of Tu Xuong Campus
