Stargazing with Year 5

17 January 2017

The stargazing evening was supposed to be the exit point from our IPC topic, “Mission to Mars’, however it became a revision session and many children demonstrated just how much they had learnt during the topic.

After being disappointed last term when we had to cancel the stargazing evening because of poor weather conditions we were very anxious that the weather would let us down again. Luckily the skies cleared a bit and our stargazing evening was able to go ahead.

The rescheduled evening proved successful as we were able to see Venus and other celestial bodies using binoculars and telescopes. We also had great fun watching water bottle rockets being launched, and some of us having the opportunity to launch them themselves. In addition, we used iPads and an app to identify where constellations could be found.

It was great to see so many children and parents there. We would like to thank the members of the Ho Chi Minh Amateur Astronomy Club for giving up their time to demonstrate the bottle rockets, and share their knowledge about space.
