Having previously run many family events in the past on a Sunday morning, this year we decided to try something a little different and host this event in the evening – mainly due to the weather but also giving the opportunity for the whole family to come together and be part of our thriving community. Thank you to everyone from across APP and TX Primary Campuses who gave their time and efforts in making this the largest event of its kind that primary have ever run, with over 800 attendees.
We would encourage you to read the information in the PTG section of this Update and look at how you can help with future PTG events.
In order to ensure that great learning continues across our school, we have held two separate regional conference this week to ensure that our teachers and school leaders are challenged and developed within their own professional practice.
On Wednesday, school leaders from across our Nord Anglia Education (NAE) regional family came together to discuss Quality Assurance within our schools in order to further implement ways in which together we can critically self-evaluate the teaching, learning, leadership and safety within our educational environments.
On Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th, BIS HCMC also hosted the NAE Regional Safeguarding and Child Protection Conference to further reinforce our commitment to providing a safe environment for all of our children and community to work in. Delegates from across the region experienced relevant, up to date training that demands the highest possible standards within the area of Safeguarding and Child Protection. The training was delivered by Mr Barry Armstrong Head of Safeguarding for NAE and Ms Katie Rigg and Ms Jane Foster from Farrer and Co – an independent law firm who specialise in Safeguarding in schools.
Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility
If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.
Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.
Spotlight on Learning – F3 Phonics
F3 have been learning phonics sounds for about 6 weeks now in F3, in which we have covered many sounds in the alphabet. We’re using a programme called Read Write Inc. and through a variety of activities and games to make it as active, hands on and meaningful as possible for our little learners we are already seeing great progress and enthusiasm. To find out more about this programme and view the full presentation, read this post by Ms Maria Shooter, F3 Teacher and Assistant Milepost F Leader.

Year 5 Community Project
As part of our community commitment, Year 5 have invited the students from the local PVD Primary School to An Phu Primary to provide them with the opportunity to play the games we created in Maths. Our job was to design and then construct games which were fun, but had a mathematical focus. The next job was to then write instructions for the game, have the instructions translated into Vietnamese and lead the small group session with our new friends. This week it was the pleasurable job of 5S and 5V to show off our projects.
Here at BIS HCMC, we take our community service commitment very seriously and believe that we are but a small part of our wider community. The connections made with our partner schools go a long way towards creating a feel of collegiality with a goal of creating better educational outcomes for all involved. Read this post by Mr Chris to see a video of our first visit.

A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who supported our Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Poppy Appeal money has been counted and we have made a total of – 27,046,000VND across the three campuses.
TX – 10,848,000vnd
AP1 – 9,791,000vnd
AP2 - 6,407,000vnd
Thank you for your support. Here is some more information on how the Royal British Legion will ensure that all money raised will go directly to the most worthy causes in their Fundraising Promise.
In order to keep our children safe on the roads outside BIS, both before and after school, please can you spend a few minutes of your time discussing the following points with your drivers.
- Never U Turn along the stretch of road outside both AP1 and AP2 – tell your driver to drive away from school and if they have to U Turn, please do so on the wider, less congested roads. Try the route past AP1 along Nguyen Van Huong, as an alternative way to get home – it may take a few extra minutes driving but it will save the time you spend in traffic.
- Ask your driver to show respect to our guards and follow their instructions – they are there to keep you all safe and have a difficult job when drivers ignore their instructions.
Always remember to Stop, Drop and Go to keep the traffic flowing.
Family Evening – Saturday 11th November
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and joined in our school community at the above fun event. We had around 800 people pass through the gate and even the weather was kind to us on the evening! Families could take advantage of the many activities on offer – face painting, crazy hair, games, activities, flower arrangement show, bouncy castle to name just a few. There were lots of great food and drink on sale too.
Also, a huge thank you to Nandini Varma who led the organizing committee for this event along with the Committee members – Gill McKenzie, Anouk Oosterhoff, Chandini Damodaran and Nicky Green. We could not run this event without our wonderful ticket sellers prior to the event and wonderful helpers on the evening. Thank you also to all of the school staff who helped behind the scenes and front of house! A huge thanks to Elena Gladchuk who was photographer for the evening and took some great photos for us to remember the evening by!
Well done everyone and thank you for supporting.

Fee Payment and Registration Forms
Thank you very much to all parents who have completed a registration form and made payment of the fee. A reminder that the fee is VND500k with a football kit and reduced to VND350k if your child re-uses their kit from last year. We will check all registration forms and issue an appropriate refund if a parent has paid the higher fee before the discounted amount was announced.
Shin Pads and Long Socks
Please ensure that your child always wears suitable long football socks and shin pads (they can be bought at the school shop or local sports shop). This prevents injury. Several children have not been wearing shin pads/socks at recent training.
Coaches needed for Y2/3 and 4/5/6 & Administration Volunteers
We are still looking for more Parent Coaches for the Y2/3 and Y4/5/6 teams. For each year group we want to make small coach teams (with parent and student coaches) so we/you are more flexible in case of you have to travel/have other commitments. Don’t worry too much about experience, as you will work in a team. Let us know if you can run one session and/or help to run a session each week.
- Please remember children need to wear sports kit.
- Please remember all children need shin pads with football socks to protect their legs.
- Please remember they must bring a water bottle.
- Hat or cap is optional
- You can buy Football socks from the BIS Uniform Shop, or any sports shop.
- For parents who are unable to stay throughout the whole training, would appreciate to arrive 10 minutes before your children's session ends to pick them.
- Please remind children if they are wearing football boots, they are not allowed in the basketball court and the playground area as their boots might damage the floor surfaces.
