Juilliard Performing Artists Visit BIS HCMC

As part of our collaboration with the Juilliard School in New York, we are fortunate to have performing artists come and visit us at BIS HCMC to perform, answer questions and sometimes run masterclass sessions.

On Thursday 24th November, we were treated to a wonderful performance from Dr. Kimberly Patterson (cello) and Dr. Patrick Sutton (guitar). They dazzled their attentive audience of students, teachers and parents with some beautiful pieces of music written for the unusual combination of cello and guitar before answering some of our thoughtful questions.

Juilliard Performing Artists Visit BIS HCMC The Patterson/Sutton Duo came to perform at all three of our campuses on Thursday 23rd November 2017. They played to the whole school and as well as hearing their fantastic cello and guitar playing they also answered some of the questions our Primary school children had thought of in their music lessons as well providing masterclasses for our Secondary students.

Visiting performers from Juilliard help inspire our students, showing them that hard work and practice does pay off and that it is possible to make a career from music.

We were privileged at BIS HCMC to have the Patterson/Sutton Duo of Dr. Kimberly Patterson (cello) and Dr. Patrick Sutton (guitar) come and perform for us on Thursday 23rd November. On this, their first visit to Vietnam they put on a wonderful performance for the BIS community and were more than willing to answer some of our many questions and provide masterclasses for some of our upper school students. We were very impressed by their beautiful playing and the effortless way they played their instruments and Kimberly and Patrick were impressed by the beautiful country of Vietnam and the attentive listening of their audience.

Featuring music from around the world we were treated to some beautiful pieces, some slow, some fast and all taking us to different places in our imagination. Although we may not be able to practice for 6-8 hours a day it left us inspired to practise more and I am sure we will have many more children taking up the cello and guitar as a result of Kimberly and Patrick’s superb playing.

On behalf of the BIS community we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Kimberly and Patrick for coming to play for us and answer our questions. It was a particularly memorable performance for our TX community as it was to be the final Juilliard performance at the TX campus, before the new Early Year and Infant Campus opens in January 2018.

Juilliard - Nord Anglia Collaboration

The Juilliard School is a world leader in performing arts education. The Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme has been designed to give students a deep engagement with performing arts - promoting cultural literacy, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.

It is because of this collaboration that our children gain access to Juilliard’s worldwide network of performers such as Dr Kimberley Patterson and Dr Patrick Sutton. We have seen how working with teachers and artists of this calibre inspires young minds to achieve their dreams, and so we are very proud of our collaboration and the extra dimension it brings to our students.

Mr Jon, TX Music Leader
