New Community Clubs at TX

09 November 2017

We’re back after the half term holiday, and everyone has continued their magnificent commitment to community service. This year has seen two new community clubs, bringing children together from BIS HCMC and the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation. Also, in the first two weeks of this half term, Year 5 and Year 2 have been involved in engaging community visits. These opportunities have helped broaden their experiences and understanding of others in our community. Finally, parents, students and staff have generously donated towards the Royal British Legion, an organisation that provides invaluable support towards members of the UK armed forces and their families.

This term, Mr Steve and Mr Luke have had the pleasure of running the ‘Community Computer Club’ and the ‘Community Arts and Crafts Club’. 8 students from Years 4, 5 and 6 have supported and built friendships with children from the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation, an organisation which provides important health, education and support programmes to vulnerable children and their families. It has been great to see our BIS students demonstrate care and respect towards others, whilst having fun.

Last week, Year 2 began their project with Anh Minh School. Anh Minh School is dedicated to supporting 150 children with hearing impairments. We are thrilled that this community partnership has already lasted for 7 years, which shows the positive and sustainable impact that BIS students are part of. It has been wonderful to see Year 2 students overcome barriers of disability, by playing and interacting with children who frequently rely on sign language to communicate.

This week saw a group of younger ‘Poussières de Vie’ (PdV) students coming to TX to participate in an exciting learning opportunity with the Year 5's. PdV provides vital educational support to Vietnam’s most disadvantaged people. The project aims to empower BIS HCMC students to lead fun and interactive maths activities. There was even a make-believe sweet shop! Although challenging, the exchange helped BIS students reflect on how responsible and inspiring they can be.

Lastly, we are pleased to announce that donations for the Royal British Legion ‘Poppy Appeal’ have reached over 13 million VND. This charity supports both war veterans and active members of the armed forces. Thank you to everyone who has helped fundraise for this charity; your support is much appreciated.
