It was an exciting few days at the beautiful Bangkok Patana 50m outdoor pool starting with our endurance engine athletes who took part in the long distance events. They certainly made their presence felt early in this meet with some stellar stamina swimming.
The Luong brothers lead the way with Alois securing a 2nd place in the 1500m freestyle and a 3rd in the 800m freestyle. His brother Jeremie was able to go one better with two first places in the 800m and 400m freestyle. Other notable performers included Cedric with a fourth place finish in the 800m freestyle and Man Nghi with the same positon in the 400m freestyle. A gruelling start for the BIS Barracudas in the long competition.
100m and 200m
The next day we had the ‘not so short’ distance events of the 100m and 200m for the three ages competing. Namely, the 10-12, 13-14 and 15+ age groups. BIS HCMC continued the trend of scoring in many races. Points were scored if a swimmer finished in the top 16 of an event. This is a particularly good achievement considering 506 swimmers entered the 100m freestyle event!
Personal bests fell all day. Some by under 2 seconds, others by over 20 seconds. Jeremie continued his 1st place haul, this time securing the title in the 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle, while Alois managed a 3rd place in the 100m freestyle and 2nd in the 200m freestyle. Others to hit the headlines include Shubhankar (4th 200m butterfly) and Ryo (4th 100m freestyle) with their great efforts.
The final day held the possibility of points for all of our swimmers in the relays and IM’s. We saw a mixture of the ‘blink and you will miss it’ 50m races, as well as some technical IM's and of course the exciting relays. BIS did well in all, with victories for Jeremie and 2nd place for the over 15 boys in both the Medley and Freestyle events.
When all the swimming was done, BIS came out with some amazing point totals, culminating in the Barracudas being awarded 2nd place for the most effective team! One place behind last year and only 2 points behind winners NEXUS, who looked strong all weekend.
With the points totals quickly counted, a trophy or two came the BIS way. It was the Luong brothers who collected. Alois achieved the third place total points score and on his final meet at the Bangkok Patana Feeding Frenzy, our swimming superstarJeremie collected the first place award!
All students contributed to our wonderful team success. Here are the total points for our super swimmers:
- Caroline, Ly, Mattheo, Quynh An -
- Ryan 4
- Bion 7

The meet has now come to an end and the BIS Barracuda's have shown Asia what they are all about. A great attitude, some excellent sportsmanship and capped off with wonderful swimming from all. A true pleasure to watch.
