From the long walk over, the climb up and over the bridge and the squash and squeeze into the lift, the visit was action packed, and language rich from start to finish.
We met Ms Bee, the Secondary science teacher; children put on their safety goggles and everyone took a risk to try a new challenge and light a Bunsen burner. Some of the expressions of pride and delight were wonderful to see. Ms Bee invited children to come back and join in her science classes when they reach year 7 and 8.
Next we took part in a volcano experiment. Many children already knew the world ‘volcano’. She named the various scientific ingredients she was using, giving children the opportunity to smell and comment. The children chose so many different food colouring colours we decided it would be a rainbow volcano.
It was a super and empowering experience for our 3 and 4 year olds. See you in a few years for real Ms Bee.
