New Practical Maths Club - APS combine with APP

01 March 2017

On Wednesday the 22nd of February Mr Sillitoe and some year 12 students came over to APP to run an exciting new Practical Maths Club for MP3 students. The year 12 students have been working really hard to create activities that are related to Maths.

  • Practical Maths Club (1)
  • Practical Maths Club (2)
  • Practical Maths Club (5)
  • Practical Maths Club (6)
  • Practical Maths Club (4)
  • Practical Maths Club (3)

The first challenge was to find out which team could build the highest tower. We were given two A1 pieces of paper and had to build a tower made from cubes and cuboids only. At the end the year 12 students calculated the height of the tower multiplied by the number of cubes and cuboid - the highest score was the winner and received delicious prizes.

We really appreciated it and loved the first challenge, we had to communicate, work together and think of different strategies as we went.

Everyone who attended the club were talking about it the next day and can’t wait for the next challenge that the year 12’s have prepared.

This new club has generated a lot of interest for a lot of students and we think this is a great club to develop Maths skills in different ways.

Thanks so much to Mr Sillitoe and the year 12 students for their time.
