One of the great advantages of social media is the ability to instantly share our lives with others. My parents, who live in the UK, have become users of Facebook so they can keep up to date with the lives of their grandchildren who live half way around the world.
At school we also use social media. We have a number of different platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram being good examples. On Facebook, simply by ‘Liking’ the page, you will receive regular updates about life at BIS HCMC, not only at the Tu Xuong Campus but from across the whole school, as well as news of upcoming events. Amongst the posts this week, there were photos and news about the visit by Animal Rescue and Care (ARC), and also about the Milepost 3 production of ‘Shrek’.
I know that many of you use social media, but I ask that you respect the privacy of others who prefer not to. Of course, we are happy for you to take photos and videos of your children, however, please make sure that they are for your own personal use (to be shared with family and friends only). I recommend that you check your security settings to ensure that your media cannot be misused.
Milepost 3 Production: Shrek
After several week’s practice, on Tuesday night the efforts of the children in Milepost 3 came to fruition as they performed Shrek to a very appreciative audience. The whole production was one of the most ambitious I have seen at BIS, and the children, teachers and teaching assistants all excelled themselves to put on a wonderful show. Thank you to all involved – it was amazing!
Unfortunately, we were unable to video this production, however there are many wonderful photographs that can be found on the school’s Facebook page or if you follow the link in Mr James’ post below.

Animal Rescue and Care Visit Foundation Stage at Tu Xuong
Our community service programme at BIS involves each year group working with a different community partner. The exception to this is in EYFS where F1, F2 and F3 all work with the same community partner; Animal Rescue and Care (ARC). This week Dr Nghia joined Koto (who visited last week), along with 2 dogs – Ziggy and Misty. You can find out what happened by reading the blog post below:

Maths Update at Tu Xuong
It has been a busy week for Mr Rob! Last weekend he was in Kuala Lumpur with our FOBISIA Maths Challenge team. There were well over 100 children taking part in a variety of quizzes, maths problems and challenges. The children were terrific ambassadors for our school and produced some excellent results against very stiff opposition.
On Wednesday morning, it was great to see over 30 parents join Mr Rob for a workshop looking at how we teach calculation methods at Tu Xuong. There was a lot of scratching of heads as we were set a number of challenging tasks; fortunately, the Year 5s were on hand to solve the final problem about the number of staff who work in the Bitexco Tower.

‘How is my child doing at school?’
As parents, this is a question that we need to know the answer to. As a school we try to answer this question through reports, parents’ evenings, email, updates and having an open door policy; at the beginning and end of the day, our teachers and teaching assistants are always available to answer questions and provide support.
SIMS Learning Gateway
School Information Management System (SIMS) is used by the school to keep all records of the teachers and children, to register the children each day, to store electronic copies of reports and other documents, to name but a few of its applications. Certain information can be accessed by parents from home via the SIMS Learning Gateway (SLG), including copies of past reports. Next week I will be sending an email to all parents with details of how you can log into SIMS Learning Gateways from home.
In an attempt to help parents stay informed about their child’s progress, this year at TX we are introducing a third report to add to the interim report you receive in December and the end of year report you receive in June. This Report Update will provide you with the information about your child’s attainment and effort in the core subjects, and highlight 4 areas, taken from our outstanding learning statements (in the back of the children’s diaries) where your child is showing a particular strength.
We will not be sending home paper copies of this report. Instead, the Report Update will be available only via SIMS Learning Gateway, so when you receive your login details next week, please log in to make sure you can access the site, and let us know if you have any problems.
Milepost 1 Swimming Gala
This week it was the turn of the children in Milepost 1 to take part in their annual swimming gala. It was another wonderful event. Thank you to Mr Ali and Mr Chau who have worked so hard to make these events so successful, and congratulations to everyone who took part.
Eat my bubbles!
Over the last few weekly updates, I have written several times about the importance of respect. In order to encourage the children to think about what it means to be respectful to others, Ms Holly organised a competition where the children had to design a poster to do just that.
Respect – How can we show it in school?
F2 Parent and Child Club
This Term F2 children and their families were lucky enough to have the option to trial a new club format with the goal to share ideas, games and activities that can be completed at home together. The participants really did benefit from learning together. Ms Hayley explains more about why this approach to clubs for our early years children is so valuable.

Announcement – New BIS HCMC Early Years and Infant Campus
Many of you may already be aware of an exciting new phase of development for our school. A purpose-designed Infant Campus is currently under construction in District 2. This new facility will cater for children from Fundinotots through to Year 2. On completion, our An Phu and Tu Xuong Primary campuses will amalgamate, which will afford an enhanced learning environment for all our Primary students and teachers and will boast many significant environmentally friendly features and creative learning spaces.
This will also mean that all three of our BIS HCMC campuses will be conveniently based in District 2. The new building is planned to open in January 2018. We will continue to keep you updated with all related progress.
An Phu Primary – Spring Fair
If you enjoyed the TX Fete, I am sure you will also enjoy the An Phu Primary Spring Fair. The fair is on Sunday 26th March. It is a day to come together to celebrate our community and work with our community partners. There will be lots of activities for the children (bouncy castle, games, toys and lucky dip). For adults there will be an exciting range of raffle prizes as well as some high value items which will go into the auction.
Entry tickets and raffle tickets will be on sale at Gate A of the An Phu Primary Campus.

You can read more about the plans for your generous donations in this week’s Parent Corner.
