Parents’ Corner – 31/3/17

“I would like a nice and colourful playground so the children are happy and willing to come to school to play and learn in a beautiful environment.” Ms Tran Poussieres de Vie (PdV) Head of School.

“I would like a nice and colourful playground so the children are happy and willing to come to school to play and learn in a beautiful environment.” Ms Tran Poussieres de Vie (PdV) Head of School.

Last Tuesday a group of 6 parents visited PdV to survey the room which is in need of renovation.  They were met by Ms Tran, Head of PdV School.  Ms Tran told the group she would like to provide the children with a room that they would be happy to enter every morning and enjoy playing with the activities inside.  It is planned to be a Multi-purpose room so they can utilise the space in different ways.

TX Parents are not magicians, however, with the school funds and new sponsorship, the aim is to grant Ms Tran her wish.  The roof is a key issue and, as work will start soon in the neighbourhood, our original plan of adding a layer to insulate and cool the room will unfortunately not be possible.  Instead, more fans will be installed.  The bathroom also requires some work and one parent already stepped in and agreed to sponsor this section of the project.  After the break, the Parent Group will provide more details on how you can contribute to help with completing the project.  There are three main efforts to plan for;

  • On site at PdV – painting the walls,
  • At TX – helping to collect equipment and second hand toys and/or donating equipment and toys,
  • Search for sponsors for the additional features required, this way the school fête funds will go further.

If your child is in Y3 or at the An Phu Secondary campus, he or she could be part of the project through an art club.  During these art clubs, children will design and paint designs on canvas panels such as, the ocean and the rainforest.  On Saturday 17th June, the clubs will visit PdV to install the panels.  Before this happens the walls need to be treated and refreshed and the room equipped with new fittings, fixtures and resources.

During this week’s visit to PdV, Ms Duyen offered to go to PdV once a week to teach children to play the organ.  Ms Duyen is passionate about music and thoroughly enjoys spreading the love of music.  Thank you, Duyen!  If you have a passion, hobby and time to dedicate, many partners are looking for volunteers.  Please get in touch with Ms Clover at cloversharman@bisvietnam.com our Community Service leader who can help you to volunteer your time.

Wednesday Coffee Morning and TX Fête Evaluation

Croissants, cookies, tea, coffee, Ms Mary, and even Mr Ian were there to greet the parents who attended the coffee morning on Wednesday.  The team leaders received a “Certificate of Excellence” for all their work and efforts before, during and after the TX Fête.  Then it was time to reflect on the event, discuss what worked well, how it could be improved and if there will be a third edition.  This could happen earlier, perhaps in Term 1, and also be a TX farewell in preparation for the planned amalgamation in January 2018.  In January 2018, TX will change location and also amalgamate with An Phu Primary, with Early Years to Year 2 in a new bespoke built Infant campus and with Y3 to Y6 in the current An Phu Primary campus as a new Junior Campus.

In the second part of the meeting, the PdV project was discussed alongside the Vietnamese Coffee Morning and Potluck lunch scheduled for Term 3.

“See you Soon, Yoko”

Each holiday usually brings a moment when we have to say, “Good bye” to some of TX community members. For Yoko this is not a formal goodbye because she will return to TX in a few months after delivering her baby.  Until we meet you next time, we wish you a safe flight back to Japan and we are looking forward to meeting the new member of the family soon.  Yoko, thank you for all your support, we’ll miss you so keep in touch!

I can’t believe Term 2 has already drawn to an end.  It has been a busy but meaningful Term.  It is time to wish you a very relaxing holiday and be ready for the last term of the academic year!

Have a lovely weekend,

Anne on behalf of the Parent Group.
