After a quick warm up and a team talk from Mr Porter, we were prepared for our first match against AmIS. We started with Malena, Ly and Chloe as attacking positions and Victoria, Bianca and Varsha as defence with Luxe in goal. Hannah and Srishti were subbed on during the game.
After 12 minutes, it was halftime and the score was still 0-0 despite some great attempts to score by Malena and Hannah. We walked back onto the pitch hoping to win our first match. However, due to excellent defence by both the teams, the match ended as 0-0.
All the girls were mentally and physically prepared for our next, back-to-back match against ISHCMC; which was one of the most gruelling matches of the day as they were our toughest competitors. During the match, all of us played exceedingly well with accurate passing, great attempts to shoot, and great saves by Luxe. ISHCMC scored within a few minutes. Making it 1-0 to them. However, very quickly, we started to communicate better and we had a great shot by Malena making it 1-1 by halftime. In the second half, we desperately tried to score as this would put us in the Pool A lead. Despite our efforts, at the end of our 2nd game, we tied 1-1 to ISHCMC but we put up a good fight with some high quality football on the pitch.
After a break from playing, we went back on the pitch excited for our next match against EIS. Both the teams played very well however EIS scored a great goal making it 1-0 to them. After this, every single person on the team wanted to win because if we didn’t win this, we would not be in the playoffs (we were unable to have playoffs for 1st or 2nd as ISHCMC were in the lead in the pool). With a quick team talk, we went back onto the pitch a little nervous this time. Nonetheless, we got our rhythm back and an exceptional header into the goal by Bianca tied us 1-1. Despite continuous efforts from both the teams and strong defence, the end score was 1-1.
After this we played our final match of the tournament against the host school SSIS for 3rd place. We all wanted to win the match and secure 3rd place. We had some great communication, passes, saves and teamwork but by the end of the 20 minutes the score was 0-0.
This meant....a dreaded penalty shootout!
3 penalties from both the teams. Hannah, Srishti and Malena were decided to take the penalties for BIS HCMC. Although a little nervous, Hannah struck the ball straight into the goal making it 1-0 to us. After this, Luxe stepped into goal to try and save the ball. She skilfully saved the ball and then it was Srishti’s turn. An admirable strike by Srishti made the score 2-0 to us. Luxe once again stepped into goal and this was the goal it all depended on (If Luxe saved this, it meant that we had won the match leading to 3rd place in the tournament) A brilliant save by Luxe closed off an excellent tournament against many challenging schools.
At the end of the day, we were all proud of ourselves to have played some high quality football with determination and we were all thankful to AmIS for the pizza they kindly brought us. Special mention to our captain Ly Hwang for supporting us very well during the SISAC tournament.
