Thank you to all parents who attended an extremely informative BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) meeting on Wednesday evening. All of next year’s Year 5 and 6 children will be bringing their own laptops to use in school for the first time in August. We are confident that this will both further their technology skills whilst also enhancing overall learning experiences both at within school and at home.
Next week, we would like to invite all parents into school for a meeting that will further outline our plans for the opening of the new BIS HCMC, Early Years and Infant Campus, planned for January 2018. In addition to this, we will discuss the updates that will be made to the present APP site – soon to be the BIS HCMC, Junior Campus – and aim to give answers to the many questions that were raised during last month’s Headteacher’s Coffee morning.
- Date: Wednesday 7th June
- Time: 6.30pm – 7.30pm
- Venue: APP Gym
A reminder of this information will be sent to all parents early next week via email.
Well done to our Year 2 EAL children and all of the members of 3V for both of their excellent parent assemblies this week. We looking forward to the assemblies of 5V and Year 4 EAL next week.
We would like to remind all parents that next week is the final week of our Term 3 club programme. Thank you for supporting the enrichment of our children’s learning beyond the classroom with an average of 121 clubs per term and we look forward to offering an even more diverse programme during the first term of the next academic year.
I would like to invite you all to our ‘Open Classroom’ event on Tuesday 13th June from 7.30am to 8.30am.
The purpose of this event is to allow your child(ren) to celebrate the varied learning opportunities that have taken place this year, and share these with you in their own classroom. It is an opportunity for our children to take the lead in their own learning, guiding you through their favourite work in their books and also talking you through the displays within the classrooms.
After 8.30am, the children will return to their timetables for the rest of the day.
We sincerely hope that you can come and support your children and allowing them to showcase their own learning that has taken place across the year.

Living Books, Lifelong Learning
For most of us, treasured stories enrich memories and shape our understanding of life. Reading powerful literature can change the way we understand history, ourselves, and the world. However, the habit of reading great literature has begun to falter. In this post by Ethan Hildreth, Superintendent at the Nord Anglia International School, he tells us about the importance of encouraging students to read quality books.
This year, the ever increasing presence of community clubs within our Extra-Curricular Club programme has ensured that our children have the opportunity to work and play with others from different backgrounds and cultures. Read about our Friendship Club in this post by Melanie Wagstaff and Georgina Cochrane, Year 4 and Year 6 Teacher.

Absence Procedure – Reminder
As outlined in the Primary Parent Handbook, please be reminded that:
On the day of an absence:
Before 8.00am, please inform the office, either by phone or email, that your child(ren) will not be attending school. A suitable reason must be given to the staff together with specific symptoms if your child(ren) are sick.
To ensure efficient lines of communication, please cc your child’s class teacher into any contact that you have with our school office that relates to absence. As always, your support is much appreciated.
If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person (Ms Dee Grimshaw) or the Head teacher (Mr Simon Higham)
Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.
In order to keep our children safe on the roads outside BIS, both before and after school, and keep the traffic flowing down Nguyen Van Huong Street, please can you ensure that you:
- Never U Turn along the stretch of road outside both APP and APS – tell your driver to drive away from school and if they have to U Turn, please do so on the wider, less congested roads. Try the route past APP along Nguyen Van Huong, as an alternative way to get home – it may take a few extra minutes driving but it will save the time you spend in traffic.
Have you ever considered visiting the Terrace Café, located outside of the Canteen at An Phu Primary? Open from 7.15am – 9.00am and 2.00pm – 4.00pm and serving healthy refreshments it’s an ideal way of beating the congestion in a relaxed and spacious environment. Try it next week – it could make a difference!
