Speed bumps ahead…
Life is not always as smooth as we wish it to be and sometimes speed bumps cross our path. This is what happened last Monday to the group who went to PdV. So far the schedule for the PdV playground renovation project has been well respected and we have experienced only minor delays. This week, the team faced a bigger challenge. They came to supervise the installation of the equipment however, they had to cancel the installation due to what they found.
The previous weekend Ho Chi Minh City had experienced severe downpours and unfortunately as a result, PdV ’s ground floor facilities flooded. Consequently, part of the new floor had been damaged and on top of this, rats had contributed to make it even worse. After feeling discouraged for a few minutes, the team worked on finding solutions. The first one was to organise for the pest control to come and deal with the naughty rats. At BIS we are animal lovers, but rats need to be back where they belong in nature, not in a school. After Mr. Hoang from the pest control company learnt that the PdV playground renovation was a community service project, he decided not to charge for his work. We thank him for his kind gesture. The contractor, who worked on the floor and the bathroom, will also assess what can be done regarding the drainage system to avoid any further problems.
The second decision was to save what could be saved and reuse it as mats. Once the pest control has been completed, the equipment will be finally installed. Art work from the An Phu Primary students is expected to be complete in the upcoming week, while the work from An Phu Secondary will be completed later in the term as their clubs run longer than in primary. The opening ceremony will be on Monday 12th of June.
Here a glimpse of the frame which will be given to PdV as a symbol of friendship and sustainable work between the two schools.
The PdV project is a combined community effort. We are grateful for the support received from Mr Mike, who promptly sent us photos of BIS and PdV students together, and from the marketing department as they created the final poster using elements we had chosen and aligned it with the school communication.
Parent Choir Update
The second rehearsal went very well and more parents joined. As per Mr Jon’s request, only parents who have been rehearsing will be on stage with the children. The group also decided on the outfit they will wear and they also have some props to create ;)
Don’t miss the summer concert even if your child is not involved in choir or orchestra, it’s always a very relaxing and enjoyable evening at TX for all the community to enjoy and share. The Summer Concert is being held in the Sports Hall on Thursday 15th June at 6pm.
Potluck and End of Year Activities
Three quick weeks and summer will be here, three quick weeks which will be full as usual. Class reps have now been informed of the staff who will leave BIS this summer and you will hear soon about the plan for a nice farewell for these members of staff.
The Potluck lunch will be held on Thursday 15th June at 11:30am till 1:00pm in the Multi-purpose room. Please keep it free and come to enjoy delicious food from around the world with the teachers and parents.
Our Y6 class rep, Noriko, is working on bringing a wonderful “Leavers Party” for the Y6 children. A survey will be sent out to find out if parents will attend. If you have a child in Y6 and have time to help, please contact Noriko (Yui’s Mum).
The date of the last meeting for the Parent Group with Ms Mary will be on Thursday 15th June after the Potluck lunch at 1pm. Term One 2017, our last term in TX facilities, will be planned. As International week has been moved to Term Two, the idea is to organise a farewell to TX and celebrate the many successful years that the Tu Xuong campus has been open. The meeting is open to all parents, feel free to come along and jump on board!
Have a lovely weekend.
Anne on behalf of the Parent Group
