Parent Corner – 09/06/17

09 June 2017

It’s never a "dull" moment at TX, from what happened this week to what will happen next week; parents are again involved in the community life. The potluck is next Thursday, we are counting on you, read more in this issue of Parent Corner.

Community Service Project Update

Parent 2

Parent 3

With the rat problem behind them, the parents involved in the PdV playground project had a tough day on Tuesday as they assembled the playground equipment. Once again it was a fun time with moments of laughter but also lots of physical activity.

The parents started by cutting pieces of the floor now that it had dried and re using it to create designated zones. The slide and swing were a bit challenging to assemble but they made it. PdV staff, contractors and suppliers all participated and supported the TX parent team in the process.

With additional donations and a slide bigger than expected, the place looked a bit packed at first, but as the team never gives up, they soon moved items around and re-thought the location of some items. A roof leak was about to ruin the joy, however the team spirit is so strong and positive that they took action as soon as they identified the problem.

The opening is now scheduled for Monday 12th June. Due to limited space, all parents/sponsors will not be able to join. Therefore, there are a select number of places allowed for parents to attend, so please check with Duyen or Eva if you would like to join. Also, if you would like to donate food and/or beverages for PdV children, you are more than welcome. It will be used during opening ceremony.

In the next parent corner issue, you will see pictures of the completed playground.

This is your success too because it was made possible by the money raised during the school fête. Thank you for supporting the community service.

More good news from Community Service department was received this week. If you remember, the Parent Group decided to focus on PdV instead of "spreading" the funds on different projects. However, TX parents also stated they would like to be part of Thien Phuc Orphanage physiotherapy bike purchase.  So, please read Ms Clover/s message about it:

“We have received enough money from all 3 Parent Teacher Groups to support Thien Phuoc (TP) with buying the physiotherapy equipment. The total that BIS will be giving is 110,040,000 VND – the remaining balance is being paid by another TP sponsor.

Our plan is to hand over the money tomorrow to a sister at Thien Phuoc – Sister Kim will be purchasing the bike (we will receive receipts and confirmation once the bike has been bought)”

Potluck and Parent Group Meeting with Ms Mary:

Next Thursday will be time to host our annual Year End potluck lunch! Starting at 11am (set up) and finishing at 1pm, it’s the time to enjoy delicious food from around the globe, chill and relax, and give a big thank you to TX teachers and staff. We will also have to say goodbye to a couple of the community members. We are waiting for you, don't miss it.

Just after the lunch, Ms Mary will host the Parent Group meeting in order to plan Term 1’s activities of the academic year 2017/18. Everyone is welcome!

Choir Update

Parent 4

Unless the parent choir has good, strong singers, the stress will rise among the group. This time, they will be singing not only with the children but also with the orchestra! And this is a first. I'm truly convinced they will deliver a perfect performance, but they sure need all the support, so don't forget to cheer for them next Thursday evening!

Y6 Leavers’ Party

After an overwhelming response and a big "YES" from parents, Noriko and Bruce are now moving on with the next steps of the party preparation. The chosen date is Wednesday 21st of June. A big "thank you" and applause to them as this will be TX’s last leavers party ever and a long lasting memory for the children. If you would like to help, please contact Noriko.

Have a lovely weekend and see you next Thursday.

Anne on behalf of the Parent Group
