Parents’ Corner – 25/8/17

25 August 2017

The first day of the academic year is always a special moment in the school life cycle. That day is even more important when you are the new student in your class and it also applies to the new parents.

Welcome back ... Term 1 is on

Being a new parent, you can feel lonely and anxious at first, and I truly hope our new parents who we met on Wednesday, feel reassured now after the “Welcome and Welcome Back Breakfast” that they found a good place with a community ready to help. Once again a huge “Welcome to TX” to our new parents (and new teachers, too ;)).

Of course it was also nice to reconnect after the break with all parents, teachers and staff who could come and enjoy a cup of tea, a Café Sua Da and some good food. Thank you for bringing in all the delicious items.

Wednesday was also an opportunity to meet Mr Anthony Rowlands, our new principal. We will have more occasions to see him around school, but we truly did appreciate him joining us.

On Thursday morning, it was APP and APS’s turn to have their morning coffees. The turnout was impressive and we had a chance to get to know parents from our two other campuses and of course, see some friendly faces: ‘the TX leavers’.

Term 1 will be busy at TX however, the two PTG’s, headteachers and deputies are really looking forward to having at least two gatherings for parents, teachers and students from the whole of primary before the amalgamation happens.

Therefore, we are currently looking for two parents to join Suji’s committee (Iris’ Mum, who is now in APP) to organise the social night, which will be held on September 21st. The first meeting will be held next Tuesday 29th August, so if you would like to be involved, please, contact Suji or me (Anne) on whatsapp.

Book Celebration Ahead: Volunteers Needed!

Book week is approaching fast and soon we’ll start collecting book donations for our annual book swap. This year again, we aim to link it to the community service project so our community partners will be able to see their library grow once more. More details will be given next Monday as well as the sign-up sheet for volunteers.  Volunteers are needed to;

  • Receive the books and give tokens in exchange
  • Run the stall during the week of Book Celebration (Week beginning 2nd October)

Please consider joining, it’s a lot of fun!

Class Reps

Ms Mary will soon email last year’s Class Reps in order to see who is continuing and also to check which class will need one. A class rep is an important link to liaise between parents and the teachers. It’s a nice role as you get to know all parents and children and will make new friends as well. Please consider applying if you have some time on your hands to support your class.  Ms Mary will soon be sending the Class Rep forms to classes who still need a Class Rep.

This was a short week, a smooth “back to school” week.  Now let’s enjoy the weekend.
