In this article, we follow up with Jeremie, Alois and Matheo Luong to find out exactly where your kind donations ended up…
In May 2017, thanks to BIS Ho Chi Minh City students, parents and staff we collected more than 3000 toothpastes. 300 of these toothpastes, were given to the children of 2 orphanages managed by ASSORV NGO.
In July 2017 we took the remaining 2700 toothpaste donations to Quang Nam province. We joined a group of doctors and students coming mainly from Washington State to provide medical checks to poor people in the province.
This was organised by Vietnam Health Clinic NGO with the checks lasting 8 days and concerning an incredible 2400 people. The medical checks included a nursing area, triage, visual acuity testing, physiotherapy, optometry, dental and a pharmacy.
Before going home, all participants were given a gift bag organised by ASSORV NGO including a blanket, a jacket, mosquito net, 10kg of rice along with their donated glasses, toothbrushes and of course toothpaste donated by the BIS HCMC community.
We want to say thank you to the Vietnam Health Clinic team, in particular Scott and Kevin the co-founders who let us work with them on site and took time to explain all the work they had done for 8 months in the USA to organise such a big medical check. All of this was possible thanks to the huge donation each of you made as BIS HCMC students, staff and parents.
To sum up their trip, the brothers put together this short video where you will see a typical clinic day in Quang Nam province:
In another video, Scott Fung one of the co-founders of the Vietnam Health Clinic NGO where the toothpaste campaign took place discusses the importance of establishing partners in these local communities and how the donation of the toothpastes made by the BIS HCMC community assisted the operations:
“The campaign that BIS HCMC had worked very well. You were great in terms of branching out to all the nearby areas and the schools...Thank you guys for all the donations.” - Scott Fung, Co-Founder of Vietnam Health Clinic.
On behalf of the school we would like to congratulate Jeremie, Alois and Matheo on their dedication to this fantastic campaign. We would also like to thank all students, parent and teachers who made a donation. It really does make a difference.
