The great musician Steve Van Zandt once said, “Band members have a special bond. A great band is more than just some people working together. It's like a highly specialised army unit, or a winning sports team. A unique combination of elements that becomes stronger together than apart.”
Here at BIS HCMC, our Music Department feels the same way and we try to encourage all students to join a musical ensemble across our three campuses. Throughout the school we have many extra-curricular options available to suit all children’s musical interests, ranging from choirs and orchestras to rock bands and folk groups. The Juilliard School, with whom Nord Anglia have a unique collaboration, also recognise the huge importance of being part of a group and have recently introduced a range of ensemble activities to their curriculum, to be used within all Nord Anglia schools including BIS HCMC.
Very few people could argue that learning a musical instrument and singing are not beneficial for a child. Both can help to foster perseverance and provide a necessary outlet for creative expression. Joining an ensemble can further enhance all of these skills and also aid confidence, language acquisition and create a strong sense of teamwork. Furthermore, when a group works together to create a performance, a huge sense of mutual accomplishment is achieved which strengthens the bond of friendship between the performers.
