U19b Girls Football vs SSIS - Match Report 15/03/2018

21 March 2018

With their third match of the season, the U19b girls football team faced their most challenging game yet against SSIS. Bianca offers the match highlights...

  • U19b Girls Football SSIS
Final score: BIS HCMC 1-0 SSIS
Coaches player of the match: Bianca
Captains player of the match: Linh
Next match: Thursday 5th April vs CIS at home

Our third match of the season, last Thursday away at SSIS was probably our most challenging game yet. Due to the intense heat, we were aware this match was going to be hard from the start, however with our limited team of only 9 players, it was clear we all had to give 110% or it would not go our way. We began the match uncertain, since some of us had never played at SSIS, and therefore the conditions weren’t exactly what we were used to. However, we quickly became accustomed to the changes, and started taking control of the game. Ignoring the heat, we continued battling throughout the duration of the first half, wich paid off when Sayuri managed to dribble past our opposition's defence, and a pass which was very well followed by Jasmine resulted in our goal.

After this our adrenaline rose, and with this the determination kicked in, as we realized that this game was ours to win. In the second half, our communication levels increased, which led to more accurate passes and better decision making in general. This helped us realize that making short passes and combinations, or dribbling the ball into space was the best way to maintain control. We carried on applying these skills throughout the remainder of the second half, and set up a lot of goal scoring opportunities, which unfortunately didn’t result in any more goals. However tight defence in our half during the last hectic minutes of the match, and some great clearances by Linh meant they didn’t come near enough to our goal to score, securing our win.

Overall this was an incredible game, and every member of the team put in all of their effort to recover from last weeks results. We worked much better as a whole, and achieved plays that we didn’t think we were capable of doing, due to much stronger communication. Since everyone played to the highest of their abilities, it was a hard decision, but players of the match Linh and Bianca were chosen for their consistent defence. This match increased our spirit and confidence greatly, and showed us that we can get the results we are looking for, as long as we are willing to put in the determination to do so. Evidently we have already progressed greatly since the beginning of the season, and as long as we continue to focus on both our individual skills and solidifying our teamwork, results should only be positive from now on.
