Mr Carl Mincher: Weekly Update 30/03/2018

30 March 2018

Dear Parents

At the end of this very full week of activity and learning we were delighted to announce that Vy Nguyen and Doan Nguyen will be our BIS ambassadors to UNICEF 2018. Through a once in a lifetime opportunity they will travel to the UN building in New York and convey the voice, the hopes and ambitious plans of the BIS student community. They will  directly contribute to the thinking and debate at the High Level Political Forum in July in support of action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

They have accepted a significant student leadership role that will draw upon the skills and characteristics that we value so highly and actively nurture in our students.

Of course, it was a pleasure to celebrate all the students involved as they shared their visions for achieving the SDGs and how they are already directly connecting these Global Goals with local action through strong personal commitments. They are as determined and passionate as they are articulate and eloquent.

The whole process was an excellent showcase of student leadership capacity that is developed throughout the school but also created a great sense of optimism for the future. A wonderful way to round off our week!

True to form our new BIS Ambassadors having heard of their success were immediately on their way to The Saigon Model United Nations conference in the city to join their fellow BIS MUN delegates.

We had terrific tumbling, fantastic floor work and victorious vaulting from all of our competing girls and boys, who have been training hard with the GymKraft coaches since January for this event. BIS finished in 2nd place behind ISHCMC in both age groups, but did win individual awards for the following students:
Myra U11   Level 1 2nd Place
Anais U11  Level 3 2nd Place
Velvet U19 Level 4 1st Place
