I am sure that many people who attended the event would agree that the PTG Coffee and Cake morning this year was a great success which bought together parents from all campuses to raise funds for such an important cause.
The event was in aid of Thuy’s Dreams which is an organisation that helps children with cancer in Vietnam. They provide donations for treatment, enrichment of the children within the hospitals as well as long term support.
BIS have a strong connection with the cancer wards here in HCMC and for the past 7 years, our secondary students have been visiting two of the cancer hospitals in HCMC to bring laughter into the children’s lives. This after school activity is understandably very difficult and many of us here would find it hard to get on a bus every week and visit the hospitals. Our student’s commitment and dedication to such an important cause is truly admirable.
At the event, 4 Year 12 students (Seo Young, Khanh Minh, Tom Lee and Aryan Mitra) from the cancer ward club/ACT club spoke about their experiences at the hospitals and their determination to continue to support the children. Seo Young and Khanh Minh, founders of the Act to Change Together club spoke about their club’s Hygiene pack project that has supported all the children at the hospitals with toothbrushes, toothpaste and information on good dental hygiene. They will continue in term 3 with the theme of quality education.
Sadly, everyone who attended the event will have known someone who has been affected by cancer and we were honoured to have a BIS parent share his personal story.
Throughout the morning we were very lucky to have some talented primary students perform as well as the parent choir accompanied by Mr Simon, Mr Ian and Mr Anthony! They looked the part with their sunflower headbands!
Half of the funds raised at the event will go directly to the children who are in need of treatment at the hospital and half will go to Thuy’s Dreams to support the enrichment of the children in the hospital and their long term support. One particular way we would like to direct the funds this year is towards Thuy’s dreams scholarship programme that provides opportunities for children who have beaten cancer to get back into school. It costs 5 million VND per child per year to pay for their schooling and we aim to provide many children with this opportunity with the funds raised!
Here are a few words from the PTG:
"On behalf of the organising team we would like to thank all the parents who contributed to make this event so successful."
"It’s been great to dedicate a few hours to such a worthy cause."
"So many people played a part to make it a success."
"Hopefully our contribution can help make a difference."

On behalf of the all the campus PTGs and the Community Department, I would like to say a big thank you for either attending or donating cake/money to this event.
I can very happily say that we made a spectacular 121,562,000VND!!! – nearly double what was made last year. This will go directly to treatment and scholarships for the children most in need.
This event was special because it highlighted what a strong school community that we have. Thank you to everyone involved with the event and who donated!
Have a lovely Easter.
