U19 Girls Football vs ABC - Match Report 29/03/2018

03 April 2018

In their match against ABC last week, our U19 Girls were on fantastic goal-scoring form in preparation for the upcoming City Championships. Bianca Verni provides the highlights…

Final score: BIS HCMC 10-0 ABC
Player of the match: Hayley Handscombe
Next match: Thursday 5th April vs CIS at home

On Thursday we had our fixture against ABC, with a mixture of players from both the A and B team. Since this team was new, and not everyone was used to playing together, we had a chance to experiment straight from the kick off. When the match began we were fairly certain that this game would go in our favour, as long as we didn’t let our skill levels drop throughout the duration of the match. Following the advice given to us by our coaches we started to press straight from the kick off, and by using tactical passes we managed to keep possession of the ball, resulting in our first goal within minutes.

Consequently, our support grew and so did our confidence, which led to complete domination of the match as we managed to score a total of 5 goals in the first half, by 5 different people. The second half was very similar to the first, and although we changed our teams slightly, our quality of football was not affected. By the end of the match we had managed to score 10 goals by a variety of different people including Hayley, Gemma, Ela, Anne linh, Maika, Jasmine and Faith. We also managed to keep a clean sheet by pressing straight from the goal kicks as we had done in training, and maintaining a solid defence in both halves.

The entire team showed a fantastic squad performance this week, full of support from both the other players and the ones watching. Choosing the player of the match was extremely difficult this week due to great efforts from every one of the 15 players. Nevertheless, Hayley Handscombe was chosen player of the match with a fantastic strike to start the scoring and for demonstrating a real hunger and desire every moment she was on the pitch. This match helped each player show the best of their abilities, as well as teaching us how to play with new people which we might have not been so accustomed to. Lastly, it helped us get to know our opposition better, so we know exactly how to play in the upcoming City Championships.
