Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 25/01/19

Ian Battersby
Ian Battersby (79 posts) Head Teacher, Early Years and Infant Campus View Profile

Our vibrant Early Years and Infant Campus are part of an amazing international community!  Throughout this week, we have seen what can be achieved when people put aside their differences and focus together on a common goal; in this case, putting together an inspirational international week that our BIS HCMC children will never forget.

Primary International Week 2019

Our mission statement can be summed up as being ‘Global Citizens, Learning Together’.  This has been evident during the ‘International Experience’ where the children took part in activities that celebrated our diversity, at the ‘Global Café’ where tastes from around the world were available for everyone to try, and at the flag parades where each nationality was cheered and songs and dances were enjoyed.

So many super photos have been taken, so please look out for the post on the school’s Facebook page.

Ms Mary, who along with Mr Chris at the Junior Campus, did a wonderful job putting International Week together tells us more about the week:

Tet Celebrations

With International Week drawing to a close, our attention turns to celebrating the Vietnamese holiday Tet.  There will be activities for the children to enjoy on Monday 28th, and on Wednesday 30th January, we invite all the children to come to school dressed in their ao dai, for 2 special assemblies that will be taking place in the Sports Hall, to which parents are invited:

  • 9:00am-9:30am: F1, F2 & F3 Tet Assembly (parents are invited)
  • 11:00am-11:30am: Y1 & Y2 Tet Assembly (parents are invited)

Finer Diners

Congratulations to this week’s Year Finers Diners!

Next week, photographers from Pret-a-Portrait will be taking photos on the Secondary Campus.  Pret-a-Portrait is a company that specialises in taking school photographs and we are very pleased to be working with them this year. Further information about Pret-a-Portrait, can be found by visiting their website, here.

Next week you will be receiving a letter with more details regarding photographs at the Early Years and Infant Campus, but they will be happening from Monday 25th February until Friday 1st March.

Join our BIS Baby and Toddler Group

Children can start at BIS when they are 2 years old. Fundinotots is the ‘BIS Baby and Toddler Group’ where parents of children aged 0 to 36 months can meet other parents and allow their children to engage in a range of activities. Fundinotots is based on the new Early Years and Infant Campus.

A huge thank you to Lily and her team of volunteers who did an amazing job, not only at the Global Campus, but in all the other ways they helped to make this week so special.  Enjoy your weekend!

Permission to leave slip

We would like to remind all parents that school identification badges must be shown and worn at all times when on any of our three campuses (including weekend and evening events).  If not, you will be asked for some form of identity and be required to wear a visitor’s badge.

If you are collecting a child without the ID card, you will need to visit Reception for a ‘Permission to leave slip’ before collecting your child from the classroom and exiting the campus together.

We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and school site safe and secure.

Health and Safety

Stay Vigilant

As in all major cities petty crime does occur, as a reminder to all of us please always take care of your personal belongings, especially when walking across roads and along the pavements.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

Mr Paul Pacey, NAE School Photographer will be in school on 25th & 28th January

Mr Pacey will be taking pictures of our school and students across these 2 days during selected lessons and sports activities.

We believe it is important to be able to share the achievements, activities and events our students participate in, and taking professional photos is a great way to capture these special moments.

Our priority though – as ever – is to ensure the safeguarding of our students by applying appropriate measures. In this regard, all images will only be used in line with the school policy as per our terms and conditions.

We will always take all necessary steps to ensure that children are in a safe and protective environment and that the privacy of children and families is protected.

It is every parent’s wish to capture memorable moments on camera of their child at school either performing in an assembly, on their birthday or simply playing with their friends on the playground before the start of the school day.  Any photos that are taken by parents on personal devices must be kept private.  They must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as, other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Leader.

Thank you,

Ms Mary

And Finally…

Birthday cake

It was one year ago, to the day that I wrote the first weekly update as Headteacher of the Early Years and Infant Campus.  It is amazing to think back to the journey we have been on through the planning stages, the opening and the development of the campus ever since.  We are all proud of what we have achieved and it is great to see the children flourishing here.

Have a lovely weekend.
