For the past four years, BIS has been getting closer and closer to the North American schools' podium finishes at the senior Volleyball competitions, with two third-place finishes our previous best performances. This year both the boys and the girls teams excelled to reach the finals of the competition for the first time.
The U19a boys team managed to beat both AIS and SSIS on their own court in the group stages and eased past CIS in the semi-final to set up a showdown against the reigning champions SSIS in the final. The improvement that the boys team have shown in recent months and years was evident in the final to force SSIS all the way to a third-set tiebreaker. Unfortunately, BIS could not break them as they did in the group stages and lost by two points to take second place. A fantastic achievement from the boys who have devoted so much time and effort into this sport.
The U19a girls team competed at BIS in the girls competition and were involved in an extremely close pool in which all three teams had the same number of points and same number of win/loss ratios. BIS, having incredibly beaten ISHCMC by a total of 10 points in the final game went through on points difference to the semi-finals. This semi-final was another exciting game in which we beat CIS 2-0 to set up a final against the ever-impressive SSIS team. It was not to be in the final but the BIS team pushed the winners all the way and made both sets close affairs and did themselves proud in the process. An excellent attainment from this young BIS team and bodes well for the future.
