Dear Parents,

When you spend each day in a school like BIS HCMC every one of them brings its successes - some are on a truly global scale but more often they are very small and seemingly insignificant but nevertheless important in adding to the confidence, skills and understanding of the student.

As teachers we know that these small but important successes build over time, they combine to shape caring, respectful, well-informed global citizens who understand how to take their first steps beyond school and add positively to their world. I was so pleased this week to read of a BIS Alumni success story that captured the spirit of BIS HCMC and so leave it to Evan Planchon (Class of 2015) to open this week’s newsletter with his story.

FOBISIA Drama Festival 2019

Our Drama students continue to find new inspiration and challenge at the annual FOBISIA Drama Festival.  Ms Jessica Bostock shares the highlights for this year’s festival for which our students, from Year 8 to Year 10, travelled to Penang recently.  Read more about the FOBISIA Drama Festival 2019.

PTG - AGM and Elections

At this time of year the PTG traditionally spends some time reflecting on its successes and achievements in readiness for our Annual General Meeting ( AGM) - this year on May 16th, a date for your diary.

The events and activities so far this year have all benefited from a wonderful team approach in our PTG Executive Committee and along with so many other members they have added to the fun and sense of achievement in bringing our community together at events throughout the year. I remain extremely grateful for their contribution to supporting arriving families and providing well informed feedback supporting our community partners and of course the spirit they add to our calendar of events.

The preparations for the AGM include elections for next year’s committee and so this is an announcement that the election process will begin very soon - please expect all the details and background in your inbox next week.

The PTG meet every Wednesday morning at 8:30am at the Secondary Campus reception - these meets are a great way to connect with other parents and share in the news from the school and hear about our PTG projects. Importantly, they are also very sociable and fun.

Please come along and join us if you can - you will learn more about your child’s learning and education in a relaxed atmosphere and who knows make new friends and connections with those who share a great thing in common - we are all BIS parents and so all of us are BIS PTG members!

U13 FOBISIA - Day 1

We have been closely following the efforts of our U13 FOBISIA Athletes on the first day of action in Phuket.  A casual 25 medals in the pool to start the day!

As always from our PE Coaching Team on site, there have already been plenty of updates from yesterday’s athletics on the BIS Social Wall and there will be plenty more to come from the next two days of basketball and football.

Look out for our first PTG “Street” Basketball Tournament coming up on Saturday 30th March.  See the Be Involved items below for more details.

GIN Saigon Conference 2019

From Friday the 22nd to Sunday the 24th of February, students from schools around the Southeast Asia Region participated in the Saigon Global Issues Network conference. Here they discussed 15 important global issues ranging from gender empowerment to animal rights to environmental action. Sixth Form student Sanny Wu tells us more about the GIN Saigon Conference for 2019.

Congratulations again to Sanny and Chae Won for their key roles in organising this prestigious event.

2019 BIS  Ambassadors to the United Nations

For the third consecutive year we are excited to be sending two BIS HCMC students to the United Nations summit in New York to represent the work our student body are doing towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

I recently introduced Nina Pham (Year 12) and Eugene Chang (Year 11) as our BIS Ambassadors to the United Nations summit for this year.

To be a BIS HCMC Ambassador to the United Nations, students need to be strong communicators, demonstrate diplomacy and debating skills, and make significant contributions to the community, MUN, or global issues groups here at BIS HCMC, and they are excellent role models who embody our school values and ethos.

Find out from Nina and Eugene themselves what makes them BIS Ambassadors.

Saigon Enterprise Challenge teams at the Spring Fair

The four teams who will be representing BIS HCMC at this year’s Saigon Enterprise Challenge will be attending the Spring Fair on Saturday 23 March 2019 to promote their fantastic products. Over the last six months, each team has come up with an idea, completed extensive market research, worked closely with suppliers and identified a worthy charitable organisation to donate their profits to. The teams will be selling their products and discussing their chosen charities in advance of competing in the final to be held at BVIS on 4th April 2019. Please come along and support the teams.
