Welcome back to all our BIS families and an especially warm welcome to those families joining this year.

It was wonderful to welcome all the children back to the campuses on Wednesday and see so many of you at the various gates and drop off points. We hope that you have had a relaxing break; we have been enjoying hearing from the children about all they have been doing. Also, we would like to give an especially warm welcome to all of our new families, we are delighted to welcome you to our BIS community. To our families overseas, although you are not here in person, we are delighted to have you as part of our Virtual Learning community and look forward to welcoming you all soon on campus.

We are delighted to welcome all our new staff across both primary campuses. Everyone has arrived safely in Vietnam, have quarantined for two   weeks and have hit the ground running in their new roles at school. We have been extremely impressed with their enthusiasm and efforts at this time.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic we have had to make some changes to the way we begin the school year and postpone some events and we would like to remind you of some key pieces of information:

Timing of the School Day

A reminder of our school day timing for each campus. Please ensure your children are dropped off and picked up on time.  We thank you for your cooperation.

Start Time

Finish Time

Early Years and Infant Campus

8.15am

School Uniform

By now you will have received your child’s school uniform. Additional items can be purchased from the Uniform Shop located at the Secondary Campus near Gate C. (Ask at Reception and they will be able to guide you).

Please be reminded that the correct footwear is a compulsory part of the uniform.

Shoes:             Formal black leather shoes, not sports shoes (from F3 and above)

Socks:             White, black or grey ankle high socks.

COVID Precautions

Just a reminder that all children should wear a mask to and from school, and when not in the classroom (moving between classrooms, playtime, etc.).  Please make sure the mask is named and that your child has a spare in their bag.

Children should be bringing a water bottle to school every day as part of their usual routine, but it is all the more important during the current coronavirus pandemic.  Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle, with their name clearly on it, every day.

We have an exciting and busy year ahead and whether you are here in person are accessing Virtual Learning until you are able to return to school, we look forward to working in partnership with you the parents in providing the best education we can to all our students.  We sincerely hope to provide a safe and happy environment for the children, regardless of the current global crisis.

In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the school staff should you need anything.  Please see the table below for key people to contact at school.

Parents’ Information Evening

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the ‘Parents’ Information Evening’ for the Junior Campus which will begin in the school gym on Wednesday 9th September at 5pm and end in the classrooms at approximately 7pm. There will be an introduction to our leadership team, followed by a short presentation about what we are wanting to achieve as a school.  Then there will be year group specific presentations and a chance, if you have not done so already, to meet your child’s class teacher.  Please make attending this event a priority! Important information will be shared by your child’s class teacher, and you will have a much greater understanding of how you can support your child’s education over the course of the year.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences (PTSCs)

The first few weeks at school are very much about settling into new classes and routines.  General information will be shared at the Parents’ Information Evening, but there will be an opportunity to have a one-to-one meeting with your child’s class teacher in a few weeks’ time. Please make a note in your diary that the pastoral PTSCs will be taking place on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th September.  Details of how to book an appointment will be sent to you next week.

Co-Curricular Activity (Clubs) Sign Up

Club

I am delighted to be able to announce that this term we are able to resume our co-curricular programme. The CCAs Booklet can be found here. In this booklet, you will find all the details about how to sign up for Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), including when you can get support for members of the school staff, which activities are available for which year groups, and key dates relating to our CCA programme.  Encourage your child to take the opportunity to do something new.

Please take time to look at the booklet with your child and ensure that you sign up next week. We don’t want any children disappointed because the sign-up deadline was missed.

Health and Safety

Registration Procedures

If for any reason your child is absent from school, we ask for you to either inform the class teacher via seesaw or email or, inform the receptionists via telephone from 7:30am on the morning of absence.  If your child usually takes the school bus, we would also ask for you to also inform Ms Trang, our bus manager, via email at Trang.Pham@bisvietnam.com

When calling reception please use the telephone number:

  • Junior Campus  – 028 37444551

If school has not been informed as to the reason for your child being absent, the receptionists will contact parents on the first morning of absence to establish the reason.  If possible, it would be helpful to indicate how long you expect your child(ren) to be absent for.

Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements.

Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there.  Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you.  Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed in to the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation.

Stay Vigilant

As in all major cities petty crime does occur, as a reminder to all of us please always take care of your personal belongings, especially when walking between campuses and across roads.

PTG

The Parent Teacher Group plays such an important role in the life of the school.  Last year, it was great to see so many parents volunteering their time to support events and activities that had such a positive impact on the whole BIS community.

Each week, the PTG has a post highlighting what is happening over the coming weeks and months, and how you can get involved. Click here to find out more.

And Finally,

Please can you ensure that as a family you have all completed your Travel and Health Declaration Form. We have received most and thanks to all the parents that have completed them online.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Deirdre Grimshaw, Headteacher of Junior Campus
