Between Friday 25th May and Sunday 26th May, a group of Year 10 and Year 11 students successfully completed a 2 day and 1 night hike and camp in the Huang Hua Cheng area of the Great Wall as part of their International Bronze Award.
The route was up and down hills, including sections of the Great Wall, with a section going through a canyon with students having to negotiate streams. The students had to orientate their way along a route by using maps and a compass. All this the students did while carrying heavy 60 litre rucksacks.
The students showed lots of stamina, motivation and enthusiasm. They also worked well as a team and were a credit to themselves and the school.
A big thank you to Mrs. Colleen Usher and Mr. Dion MacIver for assisting in the running of the weekend camp and hike.
In June, the Year 10 students will be undertaking the main hike and camp in the Yanqing Hills, north east of Beijing while the Year 11 students will be hiking in Inner Mongolia.
