University Degree: BA Joint Hons in English and Psychology, PGCE
I have come to BSB Shunyi from Alexandria, Egypt, where I have been teaching in the EYFS for the last two years. Over my 20 year teaching career, mostly in the UK but also in New Zealand and Australia, I have taught all across the primary age range, including in nurseries with babies from 6 weeks right up to the 11 year olds in year 6. However, I always return to Early Years as I love the exploration, questioning and creativity that our youngest children demonstrate minute by minute on a daily basis.
I studied for my bachelor degree in Psychology and English in Cardiff, Wales and completed my teaching degree, specialising in Early Years, at Bristol. I have also always been interested in Special Needs Education and was able to complete my NASENCo award in 2018, taking on the role of Special Needs Coordinator for three years at my school in the UK.
I love being outdoors and have brought this to my teaching through being in charge of Outdoor Learning both in the UK and in Egypt and beginning my Forest School training which I hope to be able to complete at the earliest opportunity. I feel that learning through play is vital for all of us, but particularly children in the Early Years and I was able to share my enthusiasm in this area by leading training and development with staff in the UK and in Egypt. I am excited to take these interests forward with my students in Beijing.
I have a husband and four children who are also excited to be joining BSB Shunyi. In my spare time I love walking our dog, running, reading and visiting the theatre. I also enjoy learning languages and hope my time in Beijing will help me improve my Mandarin!
