I am a qualified Early Years Professional. I have been teaching Early Years for seven years in a variety of counties, including UK, China, Vietnam and Latvia. When I was in China I worked for Nord Anglia at BISS Pudong campus first as a Head of Year for Nursery and then as Deputy Head of Early Years.
During that time, I lead the change from classroom-based teaching, to a free flow environment. This was a very exciting time and lead to many more learning opportunities for the children. I also developed the outdoor learning area for the Early Years and to do this I involved the children using a MOSAIC approach. This gave all the children a say in what they wanted in the outside area and what was important to them. The team worked hard with the children to get their opinions by doing learning walks using ipads, modelling the outside area, looking at photographs, catalogues, pictures of other schools and interviews. When all of the information was gathered, a designer came in and did a presentation to the children. This was a fantastic learning experience for the children and for all of the teachers involved. It also gave the children the opportunity to have a say in what was important to them, have their ideas listened to and be valued. Prior to teaching Early Years, I was PE teacher for five years teaching whole school PE.
For me it was an easy decision to return to the Nord Anglia family having been given such fantastic opportunities in the past to create positive change for our youngest members of the community. I believe that BSB Shunyi provides a truly child centred approach to learning in which every child has their individual learning styles catered for and that this will enable them to reach their full potential and be the best that they can be.
I am very much looking forward to working with the Early Years team at BSB Shunyi to make the all of the children’s learning experience fun and exciting, creating a love of learning that will stay with them through their school life and beyond.
I am a passionate Early Years teacher and love nothing more than seeing the excitement on children’s faces when they enter the classroom and see something new that excites them. I enjoy sport and particularly playing badminton, squash and five aside football. I am a father of three. I have two girls and a boy and am very proud of them and their achievements. I love to travel and explore different countries and cultures and I am very excited about exploring Beijing. I am married to Mrs Burt who will be working as Head of Year 2. Both my wife and myself are very much looking forward to being part of the BSB Shunyi community.
