1NL Class Assembly: We Are All Superheroes!

"The Weekly BSB" 2021-2022 Issue 4 - the-weekly-bsb--issue-4

On Friday 3rd December, Year 1NL performed their class assembly about being superheroes! They had the pressure of being the first Year 1 class to perform their assembly for the year but took it on confidently.

First, the students sang a catchy song about being superheroes while dancing too. Ms. Laidler and the students had worked very hard to remember the actions and the words. Afterwards, they introduced themselves and sang about how we don’t need capes or superpowers to be a hero. We loved the message - It was extremely sweet, and Ms. Laidler was very proud.

We really enjoyed it and look forward seeing what the rest of Year 1 have been learning throughout the Year!

Year 5’s Out-of-this-world Trip to the Planetarium!

"The Weekly BSB" 2021-2022 Issue 4 - the-weekly-bsb--issue-4

On Wednesday 8th December, Year 5 took on a trip to the Beijing Planetarium Museum to learn about different planets, meteorites and all about the universe. When we arrived, we split into groups and visited the first floor to observe and interact with the exhibits. Children thought the best part of the first floor was the planet slide, which wasn’t too big but extremely fast and fun.

After we toured the ground floor, we went down to the basement. There was a lot of information (and a lot of games) for us to learn (and play). There were facts starting from the Big Bang to the extinction of the dinosaurs. After we visited the games room, which was also great fun, we went to the second floor and watched an incredible light show about nebulas and planets in a huge, round theatre. After a yummy lunch, which was turkey ham sandwiches, we had some free time before heading back to school.

Before we left, we went to the game room for the last time. Láis, a student from 5NC, said, “I think the best part was definitely the light show and the slide!” Nolan, a student from 5MM, exclaimed, “I loved the trip! The best part was the light show and lunch.” All the Year 5 students had great fun and are looking forward to the next trip!

5MM Class Assembly: Go Global!

"The Weekly BSB" 2021-2022 Issue 4 - the-weekly-bsb--issue-4

On Friday 3rd December, Year 5MM had their class assembly to show what they have been learning and to raise awareness about being more sustainable! They taught us how and why we should protect the planet through their performances and videos they had created using the Clips app. The students remembered all of their lines and spoke very clearly.

One of the students who was featured in the assembly, Sophie, said, “It’s important to teach Year 5, Year 6 and the rest of the school to protect our planet.” Another student Emilia shared her thoughts on the assembly and claimed, “I think the video we created is great!”.

As well as students in 5MM, we were also able to ask Ms. Manning for her thoughts on the assembly. When asked why this topic is important, Ms. Manning replied, “It important to keep raising awareness of global warming and climate change because we have a responsibility to protect our planet.” She also added, “Children chose which action they wanted to research, wrote the scripts, made the props and I taught the children to use clips. Their videos are informative and encourage others to follow in their carbon-free footsteps!”

The assembly was splendid we look forward to the next one!

WW2 Topic WOW Day for Year 6!

"The Weekly BSB" 2021-2022 Issue 4 - the-weekly-bsb--issue-4

On Friday 3rd December, Year 6 had an exciting Topic WOW Day to finish up our World War 2 topic and to feel how did the evacuees felt.

In the morning, many children came to school in costumes, made their identity cards and listed their name, school name and address. After that, they made shelters in their classrooms before the air raid sirens started! Children quickly escaped into their new shelters, listening to the sounds of the Blitz while writing a diary entry in their wicked writing books.

In the afternoon, the students mixed and split into 4 groups and took part in four exciting World War 2-themed activities.

They created propaganda videos, where students used their knowledge of the Clips app to create a video explaining how to wear a gas mask.

They had First-Aid, which we learned how to wrap people’s arm in bandages and the recovery position.

As well as this, they had code breaking activity, where they used their Maths skills to crack the Enigma Code.

Finally, they researched and created their own war-themed recipes.

We asked many children what their favourite part of the day was. Gyubeen Jung of 5LS said, “I enjoyed building and being in the shelters.” Meanwhile, Dudu Lei’s favourite moment was “learning how to wrap arms and practicing the recovery position!” It is clear to see that children had a very enjoyable day and Year 6 students are already looking forward to their next Topic WOW Day!

Santa’s Secret Shoppe Success!

"The Weekly BSB" 2021-2022 Issue 4 - the-weekly-bsb--issue-4

This week, children all across the school visited Santa’s Secret Shoppe to buy gifts for their friends and family. Parent volunteers ran the Shoppe in the foyer surrounded by Christmas decorations and music. There were pens, toys and many more gifts on sale with prices ranging from 5 to 50 yuan. After buying the gifts, parent volunteers generously helped to wrap them with ribbons, stickers and wrapping paper.

The Young Journalists were able to ask some of the parent volunteers why they chose to take part in running the Secret Shoppe, with one parent responding, “I love helping out. It feels so meaningful to see all the children buying gifts for their family and friends!”. All the money raised will be donated to the chosen charity.

Children have had great fun buying gifts for their loved ones and we are already looking forward to next year’s Santa’s Secret Shoppe!
