MATHS

Promoting a love of problem solving

The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice competition based in the UK.

It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

The problems on the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.

This year BVIS are able to offer this to our Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students for the first time in years.

The competition will take place from February 1st until February 4th.  For the first time UKMT have made this available online so our students have a little flexibility in terms of the day they complete the challenge.  Students will be receiving more information from their class teachers and form tutors next week about this competition but if they should follow this link to practise in the meantime.   https://diagnosticquestions.com/UKMT

In the November Senior competition we had record entries and certificates at BVIS hopefully we can beat this for the intermediate competition.

For further information please contact Ms Lorraine Robertson

Sport

Our sports teams played their first fixtures in almost 1 year this week. The KS3 boys football team got off to a difficult start, losing their first game away to UNIS but the KS4 boys and girls showed no signs of the lack of game time with resounding home victories, also against UNIS, on Wednesday evening. The boys winning 37-15 and girls 20-12. It was great to see you student back on the court this week after such a long break. A fantastic effort by all involved. Well done!

Art

This week Year 9 are practicing Still Life drawing from sculptures they made in Term 1B.  They are using view finders to check proportion is accurate and showing tone and texture using pencil.  Next week they will use the same method with colour pencil.

Donation for Charity

We welcomed Kim Chi from Blue Dragon into assembly to share with the students how the money raised from the Christmas Market last term is going to be used by the charity. Students raised over 96 million VND from the market and they were grateful to see that this would go towards rebuilding houses and supporting children’s education and living standards in Central Vietnam after the terrible floods last year.

Event of the following week:

Monday, January 11th - Friday, January 29th: Year 13 MOCK exams

Tuesday, January 19th: Y7 parents evening. We look forward to welcoming you

Have a great weekend ahead!
