Dear BSB Sport Followers & Supporters,
What a Term it has been! We continue to see growth in numbers for all sport teams with the greatest increase in participation in our Volleyball programs, particularly at the U19 & U12 level. New this year, we have allowed all Y6 students to participate in all U12 core sport teams: football, volleyball, & basketball. Last week our 3rd Annual 3 vs. 3 Mini-Volleyball Invite tournament was held at BSB, with 9 ISAC schools participating. In total there were 44 teams between boys & girls, with over 250 students/players playing volleyball. BSB entered 9 total teams (5 boys & 4 girls). What is so great about this tournament is that both primary (Y6) & secondary students (Y7) get to take part and represent BSB as one school. We look forward to seeing this growth in our basketball programmes at the U12 level for Season 3.
As I reflect on the term that has just finished, some of the highlights have got to be, first of all, our U19 Boys ACAMIS Volleyball Team winning our first ever ACAMIS Volleyball title in a dramatic come-from-behind fashion hosted at Hong Kong Academy (HKA). Even more impressive have been our U11 football results, which saw BSB winning 1st place in both the boys and girls ISAC 1st Division Tournament for the first time. This is the best division of football played in ISAC at the U11 level. Though results are not always what we measure as true sport success, BSB for the first time entered U11 boys and girls teams in the annual BIS Phuket, Thailand, Soccer 7’s Tournament. This tournament has grown into the largest football tournament in ASIA for like-minded schools, with over 2500 students participating from over 25 schools. It is our intention to enter teams again next year (November 2016), and hopefully add U13 boys and girls as well in addition to our U11 ones.
As Season 1 has ended, we are pleased to announce and congratulate all Season 1 Sport Award WINNERS. These students have risen above others for their respected teams (Most Valuable Player-MVP, Most Improved Player-MIP, & Coaches Choice/Players Player-CC/PP) and continue to grow and develop BSB into one of the best sports schools in Beijing if not China. Again congratulations to these winners and stay tuned for the Season 2 award winners which will be announced just after the Chinese New Year Holiday as Season 2 concludes. As a reminder all award winners and all players who participated in a Sport for the 2015-2016 academic year and their families are invited to the 2016 Sports Award Evening & BBQ @ BSB on Tuesday June 14th from 6-8PM. This annual event celebrates all award winners, players, and cumulates in the announcing/awarding of the U19/U14/U11/U9 Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year for 2015-2016. It has grown into one of the largest BSB events shared between both primary & secondary students and their families. Please plan to attend if available.
It also gives me great pleasure to announce the 2016 U13 FOBISIA team. Trainings will begin the week of 11th January as they are scheduled to depart for St. Andrews Green Valley, Thailand (STAGV) for the annual U13 FOBISIA games held from March 11th through 13th 2016. This is one of the best squads we have been able to put together and hope for some great results when they return. Primary FOBISIA try-outs will begin after the Chinese New Year Holiday, so stay tuned for announcements when these will take place. Primary students interested to make the FOBISIA squad should already have played/or is playing football in Season 1, Handball in Season 2, and T-ball in Season 3. Swimming is also a vital must so being a member of the BSB Aquabears should also be on your participation list. Primary FOBISIA details to follow after the Chinese New Year Holiday.
Also, stay posted for our 2016 ACAMIS swim squad as we finalize our total number of students participating in the annual ACAMIS Swim Meet. This year’s meet is being dually hosted by Dulwich College Suzhou (DCSZ), and the Suzhou Singapore International School (SSIS). Dates for this meet are March 18th & 19th in Suzhou, China.
