I am delighted to welcome our Year 7 students to the secondary school. In order to support our students with the transition from primary to secondary we have introduced a bespoke programme called Global Perspectives. Global Perspectives is a unique, transformational programme designed to help our Year 7 students develop transferable skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. It also offers valuable opportunities to reinforce connections and skills across all Key Stage 3 subjects. The emphasis is on developing our students’ ability to think critically about a range of global issues where there is always more than one point of view.
In lessons students will study global topics that are relevant to them – for example, the environment, education and keeping healthy.
The course is organised into six main skill based 'strands':
The skills are taught through a wide range of topics using a personal, local and global perspective.
Research tells us that the earlier learners start to develop and practise their skills, the greater the impact on their learning. Making a course such as Global Perspectives available to younger learners will develop and embed cross-curricular skills at an earlier age, supporting them in their studies, and providing them with an excellent foundation for success.
