CAS - Roundabout

24 10월 2014

Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) update.

Every Wednesday from 4pm until 5pm, BSB CAS students head to Roundabout to participate in service based activities. Please see an update of their work below from Ivan Chow.

Roundabout is a charity organization that aims to assist people whom suffer from poverty and dedicate themselves to help children suffering from diseases such as Leukemia.

In Roundabout, we've done many different things. We've previously worked on many electronic items. We have been sorting different electronic cables and tested them to see whether they function properly or not. Other than that, we also tested different electronic gadgets such as phones and cameras. If these items function properly they are then placed with a tag to it saying that it works and it would be sent to be priced and eventually sold. There was once where we were asked to find different functioning components of a Xbox so that it could be sold as a full set to increase its value. The money gained from selling these items will either be used to pay for medical fees for individual children who suffer from Leukemia or the money will be used to purchase daily products which will be sent to Yunan where it was stoke by an Earthquake.

In another occasion, we were asked to move wooden baby beds to crates from the warehouse. These would be sent to Yunan to support people there after the Earthquake. Afterwards we then gathered all the donated goods such as toothbrush or soap and we then separated them into groups and place them in a plastic bag and labeled them. These goods will then be sent to Yunan again as the area is experiencing shortage of daily items after the Earthquake.

In the recent visit to Roundabout, we were asked to work with Christmas goods. We gathered all the donated Christmas goods together. We cleaned ones that were in a slightly dirty condition due to the long storage time. These goods were then separated into different packaging and were sent to be priced. For other goods that were too big to be placed in a packaging bag, we tied a price tag on the product and sent to be priced. These products will be sold during the upcoming Christmas. All the profit gained from selling the goods will be used to pay medical bills for different children around China.
