Year 6 Eagles have been preparing for the impact of climate change…

As part of our topic on how climate change is affecting countries around the world, Year 6 has been focusing on how we can prepare for flooding, an inevitable consequence of climate change.

To generate ideas, we played an online decision making game which involved protecting a settlement from the impacts of a flood by choosing defenses, upgrading houses and making decisions on the location of important buildings. The ideas generated helped them to plan group presentations on how they could prepare for a flood.

The presentations were shared with the class at the end of the week. Each group had a different focus including how they could raise awareness of a flood in a community, how they could protect an area of the UK from flooding, as well as what kit would be needed to prepare for a flood.

Through this series of lessons, which integrated both English and Topic, they developed a range of skills including team work, decision making, research and presenting successfully to an audience.
