EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & LATE BUSES – Starting again on Monday 12 January

Your children will be continuing the same activities that they signed up for last term. These will run through until Thursday 12 March. The late buses will be running on the same routes and schedules as last year. Please make sure that you, or your helper, are at the bus stop on time so that we don’t delay children further along the route. If you need to double check what activities your child is doing, please contact Ricky AuYeung on ricky.auyeung@nais.hk. Your child’s class teacher will also remind your children today. Please click here for the late bus schedule.

CLIVE LEACH WORKSHOP – 21 January 2015, 8am to 10am in the Hall –“Resilient & Resourceful Young People – Learning how to Flourish”

We are delighted to be joined by a world-expert in the impact of Positive Education on children. As well as organising training for our teachers, Mr Leach has kindly agreed to a two-hour workshop for our parents. Please email ricky.auyeung@nais.hk to reserve your place. We already have more than 100 parents signed up!

QUIZ NIGHT – PARENTS VS TEACHERS – 29 January 2015 from 7.00pm

Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is delighted to host its first event. Details are attached (in English and Chinese). It should be a great evening!

WHOLE SCHOOL VALENTINE’S DISCO – Please save the date – 5 February 2015

Another fun PTA event is the up-coming Valentine’s Disco. Our Hall will be transformed into a dance floor with disco lights, drinks and cookies. No uniform on this day! Dress up in your favourite party outfit. Invitations will go out in your child’s bag and via email next week. Please note, that there will be no ECAs on this day as the Disco will run from 2pm until 5pm, depending on your Year group.

NAIS HIKING GROUP – Please email me if you’d like to get involved

The cooler months are bringing out some of the avid hikers among our parent community. We would like to invite any other parents interested in getting in contact with our hiking mums (and dads!) to email me: rebecca.merrett@nais.hk. If you are new to Hong Kong, hiking is such a lovely way to get to know different areas of Hong Kong, and the hikes invariably end up with coffee or lunch!

To help you plan ahead, please click here for our full programme of Parent Workshops for Term 2. We do really welcome the opportunity to share with you the way that we teach and how you can support this with your child at home. Please note that we have added a new session on “E-safety at Home”, led by David Boyd, Head of Balmoral and our resident computer expert. Mr Boyd will talk about the important subject of safe internet use and offer practical tips on how to keep your home e-safe.

Our Head of Year 1, Katie Malone, led a fascinating workshop this week on how we teach maths in the Primary years, and how parents can support this learning at school. If you missed this workshop, you can click on this link for details, but Mrs Malone has also promised to host another workshop soon, as many of the parents that attended were keen to learn more.

Our coffee machine will be ready soon (fingers crossed for next week), so parents will be able to enjoy a coffee and pastry in our cafeteria when they drop off/pick up in the mornings or afternoons. It’s another great way to get to know other NAIS mums and dads.

Another way that we help you to better understand what your children are learning at school is through our Curriculum Newsletters. These come out twice a term and explain what your child is doing in each subject. They will be available on our website (News & Insight -> Curriculum Newsletters) next week.

Our long-awaited school photos are being uploaded to a special website as we speak. Next week we’ll share the log-in details so that you can browse through the photos and make, and pay for, your selection online.

Please stay in touch and we look forward to hearing from you, either in person or by email.
