In what looked to be a comfortable afternoon of football and our first home tournament at DCIS, it was DCSG 'E' who handed the boys their first defeat and ended a wonderful 3 month undefeated spell.
The first match of the afternoon was played against ICS and finished in a convincing 3-0 win, Connor extending his goalscoring form on the right wing. Extra praise also goes to Emil and Samuel for some super defensive displays throughout the match.
Confidence was high going into the next match against ISS and it was Agastya who scored the pick of the goals, bending in a beautifully struck free kick from 20 yards out (see pictures) Shoei and Alfonso also got on the scoresheet and finished off another dominant performance from the whole side.
Going into the final match, the boys were confident of another victory but started off in an uncharacteristically low gear. DCSG responded with a flurry of attacking moves and chances but Dover dug in deep and managed to weather the storm. At half time, changes were made in an attempt to strike first in the second half. However, it was not to be and DCSG finished an excellent attacking move with a well placed goal in the bottom left corner. 1-0.
In the final 5 minutes, an air of desperation crept in to the side and chances feel agonisingly wide of the goal. The final blow was delivered at the death with DCIS scoring a superb volley to send their bench (and manager) into delirium!
Defeat was definitely a hard pill to swallow (particularly by Mr. Handley!) but lessons have been learnt and the boys will be eager to come back stronger next week for our last tournament before finals day on Saturday 2nd February.
Overall, an exciting and dramatic afternoon of football with lessons learnt by all.
