Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

I hope your children had a restful half-term, there was certainly excitement as school started this morning with children, staff and possibly parents looking forward to the last half term of the year.

We ran our second lockdown of the year this morning. Our local community police partners were on site to observe and they were impressed at how well our children responded to the alarm and hid calmly while we toured the school to check classes were secure. As you will know from Singapore Police’s publicity we do live in a very safe city, but sadly, we do need to practice these drills as we can’t be complacent.

This week will see our Primary students tackling the MIT STEAM Street Smarts Challenge, they will be exploring driverless cars and discussing their safety, the technology in use and the ethics of this development.

The DCA Family Sports Day is taking place this Saturday at school, from 3pm-7pm, with a Football World Cup amongst the highlights as well as the ever popular dunk tank.  It is not too late to sign yourself and your children up for one or more of the sports on offer, it will be an afternoon to remember!

As you know Singapore is hosting a summit between the leaders of the USA and North Korea next week. We are not expecting any disruption to roads around the school but our bus routes may be affected. We may not get much notice but we will work with KAL to inform parents of any changes to routes and/or timings as soon as we can. The police suggest following their Facebook page for the most up to date information on road closures.

Have a great week.

Mr. Christopher Short

Photographers of the Year Competition – Now Open

  • A core part of the Global Campus is to connect students virtually across Nord Anglia through one of a kind experiences which aim to develop and enhance students’ global mindedness.
  • With this in mind, the main focus of this year’s competition is for students to visually represent what Goal 16 means to them and to see the interpretations of other students across the world!

  • There are three core themes focused on Goal 16:
    • PEACE: Safety and calmness
    • JUSTICE: Leadership and fairness
    • STRONG INSTITUTIONS: Family and friendship
  • As this competition is taking place mainly over the summer, please make sure you know how to access your accounts online!
  • Students will have access to information around the theme, rules, an area to learn more about Goal 16, a short course to learn composition techniques and an area to post photos they have taken over the summer that correlate to each of the three themes.
  • At the start of the next academic year, students must submit their final photos around a chosen theme directly to their teachers.
  • Photos will then be shortlisted by teachers in schools and sent to the GC Team for final judging.
  • Deadline 29th October

Have a great week everyone. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries you may have, and keep in contact! We love to see and hear what you have been up to with the Global Campus.

Many thanks,

The Global Campus Team

Important Reminder from The British High Commission

British High Commission Singapore Logo

Summer holidays are fast approaching but there is still time to make sure you have no passport disasters at check-in!

Many countries in our Asian region require at least six months validity remaining on a passport in order for entry to be granted. Airlines are not flexible and even one day less than six months validity means you will not be able to board the plane. Families busy with holiday preparations can easily overlook this.

The Consular Section of the British High Commission recommends these two easy steps:

  1. Check the expiration date of all family members’ passports now.
  2. Renew any passports with less than six months validity (at the date you wish to travel) online with Her Majesty’s Passport Office.  www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office

A new passport can take up to 4 weeks to process. If you apply now, you will be in plenty of time for your summer holidays!

Lunch Service: Sodexo

Please be advised that a representative from Sodexo will be available every Friday from 7.30-8.30am to assist with any queries regarding Bracelet IDs, registrations and top ups.
