In Primary, Goal 4: Quality Education was the focus. The students considered how people access education when difficulties or obstacles arise. A long walk to school was one obstacle our Year 6 students simulated. They walked from Heroes’ Square in Pest all the way to BISB on the Buda side involving the very steep walk up Kiscelli Koz. This helped our students to understand that not all children find getting to school simple and that for some a 7km walk before and after school is the only way they can access a formal education.
Meanwhile in Secondary, Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions was the focus. Sixth Form students began their International Day with a talk from Mr Sean Waller, a human rights lawyer, about the implications of Goal 16 for international, national and legal organisations and practitioners around the world. Mr Waller introduced himself and the work he has done over the last few years with minority groups and mental health patients in the UK and Malaysia. He then engaged students in discussion around the features of a strong justice system and the roles of various international institutions in supporting people. After a lively Q&A session, the students left the talk with many different issues to think about as they continued with their day of work around Goal 16. We are very grateful to Mr Waller for making time for our students!
