On Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th June, 150 students from Years 1-12 took to the stage for our annual Performing Arts Showcase ‘A Big Night of Musicals’. With performances from a range of our co-curricular ensembles, the evening allowed students to collaborate across the school and showcase their talents in a range of inter-discipline skills within Performing Arts.
On the two evenings we were entertained by a range of show songs, such as ‘Mamma Mia’ with our youngest choristers, Sing and Move, ‘You will be Found’ from Dear Evan Hanson performed by our Senior Vocal Group and a fantastic performance of the hip hop song ‘My Shot’ from Hamilton, by our Junior Vocal Group.
Alongside our singers, our Stage Stars performed a physical piece to ‘Thriller’ and our instrumentalists performed numbers such as ‘Circle of Life’ from the Lion King performed by our Woodwind Ensemble. We had a rendition of ‘Let it Be’ from one of our Rock Bands and an intricate improvisation from our Primary Fusion group.
Calliope Tulea really enjoyed performing Bohemian Rhapsody from ‘We Will Rock You’ with one of our Rock Bands at the two evenings and described her experience at the Performing Arts Showcase as an exciting opportunity and experience to be involved within.
Zhe Wen performed with the Orchestra and particularly enjoyed playing ‘You’ll Be Back’ from Hamilton, due to its exciting and playful rhythms and his opportunity to showcase his talents as a clarinetist.
Sneha Ghosh described the evening as outstanding and a huge success. Whilst she herself was involved in the Physical Theatre performing a theatre piece to ‘Singing in the Rain’, she equally enjoyed watching the very impressive tumbles and spinning gymnastic display to ‘Jellicle Cats’ from Cats.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done to all of the students involved in our two performance evenings. They have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to put together their performances and they made the Performing Arts team incredibly proud.
