At BSB Sanlitun, we are committed to nurturing a lifelong love of outdoor learning and recognise its vital role in every child’s development. Inspired by The Curiosity Approach, which celebrates the use of real, authentic materials to spark awe and wonder, we have thoughtfully redesigned our Reception outdoor learning spaces to enrich exploration, creativity, and discovery.

It has been a busy and dynamic week for all students in Chinese classrooms. Let’s look at some of the highlights of learning and activities there. The children in Nursery learned about colours. They discussed their favourite colours and discovered that they can create new ones by mixing different colours...

This week in Nursery it has been full of creativity, discovery, and self-expression! The children have been learning all about patterns - spotting them in everyday objects and creating their own in art, construction, and play.

This month in EAL, our students have been busy exploring exciting topics that connect language learning with the wider curriculum. Each year group has been practising new vocabulary, speaking in full sentences, and building confidence in reading and writing while having fun with their class themes.

What a fantastic start we’ve had to our ASA Sports Leagues this year! To make things even more exciting, we’ve revamped the leagues by introducing team names, logos, slogans, and descriptions - adding an extra layer of identity and pride for our students. And after Week 1, it’s safe to say the competition is already off to a thrilling start!

Our current topic, “Amazing Me”, is a wonderful theme that helps children learn more about themselves and the world around them. It encourages them to think about their bodies, their emotions, their families, and their communities. At this age, children are beginning to develop a stronger sense of identity and understanding of their feelings, so this topic gives them the language and tools to express themselves in positive ways.

It’s no secret that German grammar can be a bit challenging. To make it easier for children to understand, learn, and practise, there are creative approaches - one of which is the Montessori method. Using this method, children can learn the parts of speech in German in a fun, imaginative, and interactive way, which also makes their learning and thinking visible!

At school, we don’t just learn by listening - we also learn by doing. This is called active learning. Active learning is when we take part in fun activities that help us understand new ideas. It can include moving around, using objects, solving problems, talking to partners, and asking questions.

Outdoor play is such an important part of children’s development in the Early Years, and activities like blowing bubbles, riding bicycles, and exploring the mud kitchen all provide rich opportunities for learning across the curriculum.

What a joyful start we’ve had! It has been such a delight to watch our little ones settle so beautifully into the class. Each day they come in with smiles, ready to explore, learn and play.

At this point in the year, our Year 2 pupils - at the very end of KS1 - are invited to apply for the role of House Captain. This is an exciting first step into leadership that many of our Year 1s look forward to as they move up, knowing they can apply right at the start of Year 2.

When we think of writing in primary school, most of us picture neat lines of work in an exercise book. While this has its place, research shows that children also benefit greatly from writing in different spaces—on tables, windows, whiteboards, or even the ground outside. These opportunities are not about avoiding books, but about broadening the ways children can engage with writing and learning.

In June, our Metacognition Lead, Ms. Mulenga, travelled to Boston College in the US, to join 26 other Nord Anglia Teachers to discuss and share findings from the global research project on metacognition.

We sat down with the newly selected Head Students for 2025/26 to find out more about why they put themselves forward for the roles, how they feel about being selected, their plans for the future, and the challenges they may face in their new and important positions.

As we come to the end of another exciting school year, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the wonderful progress our EAL (English as an Additional Language) students have made.

During STEAM Week, Year 2 embarked on an extraordinary hands-on learning journey that combined Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics—the pillars of STEAM. STEAM education encourages curiosity, creative risk-taking, and problem-solving, helping children build the essential skills they need for the future. But more than that, it brings learning to life in a way that is exciting, meaningful, and memorable.

Our brilliant Year 6 students impressed everyone with their lively production of The Amazing Adventures of Superstan. With great comic timing, confident singing, and strong stage presence, each child had their moment to shine. Their hard work, teamwork, and enthusiasm really brought the show together in a fun and memorable way.

Reception recently had a wonderful adventure on their school trip to Sheep MoMo – and what a memorable day it was! From the moment they set off, excitement filled the air as the children sang songs on the buses, eager for the day ahead.
